With the introduction of the SmartAccess Multiscan—a new biometric fingerprint scanner—FUHR is taking the next step in the development of smart access control. According to Marco Pels, Managing Director of FUHR Benelux, this is not a standalone product, but rather a logical extension of a comprehensive and modular access concept that evolves alongside residents’ needs.
“The lock industry is undergoing the same evolution we saw earlier in the automotive industry and the world of home automation,” says Pels. “While it’s now completely normal to unlock a car with a remote control or operate smart devices via an app, for years the house key was the only way to enter a home. Now we’re seeing a shift there as well toward smart and intuitive solutions, such as access via a smartphone or fingerprint. That’s the direction we’re heading with FUHR, where comfort and security go hand in hand.”

With the new SmartAccess Multiscan, users can unlock their front door with a fingerprint. With this product, FUHR is responding to the growing demand for intuitive forms of access control. “Not everyone always has a smartphone on hand, and searching for a house key isn’t always practical either,” says Pels. “With the Multiscan, your finger becomes the key, so to speak. You always have it with you.”
The biometric fingerprint scanner is an extension of the SmartAccess platform and unlocks the motorized multi-point lock with a single touch. “The compact fingerprint scanner can be discreetly integrated into the door panel or a door handle. Management is handled via the SmartAccess app, with all data stored locally. An internet connection or cloud environment is not required.”
The foundation of the system is the Autosafe 835 automatic multi-point lock. According to Pels, FUHR sets itself apart with a modular approach. “Starting from a single platform, doors can be gradually upgraded with a motorized drive, SmartAccess, and ultimately the new Multiscan. This creates a future-proof access solution that evolves with residents” needs and can be used in wood, aluminum, and PVC doors.”

According to Pels, the introduction of the SmartAccess Multiscan underscores the direction FUHR has taken. “The front door is increasingly becoming part of Smart Living and Smart Home. With our solutions, we want to make that development simple, secure, and future-proof for everyone.”
To help users and installers put together the right access solution, FUHR has also developed an online SmartAccess Configurator. “This allows dealers, window frame manufacturers, and end users to quickly determine which components are needed based on their current situation and preferred operating method.”
In addition to innovation, FUHR is making a strong commitment to sustainability. This focus on sustainability was recently highlighted in connection with World Environment Day on June 5, an occasion when the construction industry examines the environmental impact of materials and components.
According to Pels, this is also driving an increasing need for transparent and product-specific environmental data. “We’re responding to this with a system we developed in-house that allows us to provide insight into the CO₂ footprint at the product level,” he explains. “Not with a single average value for all products, but specifically for each product. This allows processors, profile manufacturers, and builders to accurately see what impact a chosen solution has on a building’s overall environmental performance. That demand from the market is only growing.”
