Digitization and hybrid systems set the tone at Fensterbau Frontale

International platform for window frame industry exemplifies innovation and knowledge sharing

The 2026 edition of FENSTERBAU FRONTALE was emphatically dominated by two themes that will determine the future of the window frame industry: digitization and hybrid systems. Anyone who walked through the packed halls of the Nuremberg trade fair complex from March 24 to 27 could immediately see that the sector is developing rapidly. Technology, material innovation and industrial production are coming ever closer together and are bringing about a marked change in the way we work.

With around 75,000 visitors from 117 countries and over 1,000 exhibitors, the trade fair duo once again confirmed with HOLZ-HANDWERK its position as an international platform for the window, door and facade industry. All halls were busy, there was intensive networking and knowledge sharing. The energy was palpable and underlined the importance of this fair as a meeting place for the sector.

Emergence of artificial intelligence

Digitalization ran like a thread through both the trade show offerings and the content program. From smart design software and automated production lines to applications with artificial intelligence, manufacturers are fully committed to working more efficiently, making fewer mistakes and having better control over processes. Serial construction and digital planning methods also received a lot of attention, partly because of the growing demand for speed, affordability and sustainability in construction.

For frame companies, this means that processes are increasingly digitally driven and better connected. The move from artisanal production to more integrated and data-driven working methods is clearly visible. This makes it possible to produce faster and respond more flexibly to market demand.

Hybrid systems

Equally striking was the emergence of hybrid systems. These solutions combine different materials - particularly PVC and aluminum - responding to the need for both good performance and an attractive appearance. The idea is simple: the strong properties of different materials are brought together in a single product.

A well-known example is the combination of a PVC core with an aluminum outer shell. This creates a window frame that insulates well, is sturdy and at the same time has the appearance of aluminum. This makes hybrid systems interesting for both manufacturers and end users. They offer a good balance between quality, appearance and cost and thus match market requirements well.

This development is also evident on the production side. Machine manufacturers are responding to the growing demand for hybrid applications by developing production lines suitable for multiple materials. This allows frame companies to produce more flexibly and work more efficiently. Hybrid systems are thus not only a technical concept, but also a practical solution for modern production processes.

Personal contact is paramount

In addition to all the technological developments, the human aspect remained important. The fair once again showed how valuable personal contact is. Especially at a time when many processes are digitizing, the need remains great to meet each other, exchange experiences and see products in real life.

The extensive fringe program also offered plenty of depth. Themes such as circular building, climate adaptation and energetic renovation were extensively discussed. New elements such as the Innovation Award and interactive sessions provided additional dynamics and inspiration.

FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2026 made it clear that the window frame industry is in a state of flux. Digitalization helps companies work more efficiently, while hybrid systems offer new possibilities in terms of performance, appearance and production. The sector is thus taking clear steps toward a future in which flexibility, cooperation and innovation are central.
