With over 140 years of experience, a wide product range, and a strong focus on customization and circularity, Breuer & Schmitz has established itself as a specialist in the international window and door industry. Based in Solingen, Germany, this family-owned company manufactures hinges and other hardware solutions for a wide variety of applications.
Breuer & Schmitz congratulates Profiel on its impressive 20-year milestone. At the same time, the family-owned business thanks the trade journal for its collaboration over the past years, which it looks forward to continuing in the future.

This is happening in a market that, according to Breuer & Schmitz, remains quite volatile. New residential construction is getting off to a slow start, key projects remain stalled, and the housing shortage continues to grow. For manufacturers and suppliers, this raises not only the question of when construction will pick up again, but also what that future construction activity will look like.
Breuer & Schmitz, for its part, is actually seeing an increase in demand for its products from the Netherlands and Belgium. The order book is very full. That is why a great deal of attention is currently being focused in Solingen on improving and accelerating production. The goal is to meet the increased demand while maintaining the agreed-upon delivery times as closely as possible. The sales team for the Netherlands has also been strengthened with an additional account manager, so that customers can receive more intensive support and advice.
As a family-owned business, Breuer & Schmitz is strongly committed to quality, sustainability, and in-house production. This combination has formed the foundation of the company for generations. ‘German thoroughness,’ Cradle to Cradle, fire resistance, and acoustics are key selling points for BSW hinges. At the same time, the company distinguishes itself through its flexible production methods and its ability to work with customers to develop solutions for specific applications.
One example is the Portus hinge. Doors are becoming larger, wider, thicker, and heavier, placing greater demands on the hardware. With Portus, Breuer & Schmitz is responding to this trend. The range of concealed hinges has also been expanded. A new model has been added to the HiDe-3D line, featuring improved, easy 3D adjustability.
For security applications, the company offers, among other products, the Protect security hinge. This product line includes various sizes and models, and delivery can be tailored to the needs of door and window frame manufacturers.

In the coming years, Breuer & Schmitz plans to focus more strongly on the project market. Its broad product range, in particular, is set to remain a key asset in this regard. According to the company, this enables it to cover virtually the entire spectrum of applications, including those in the door and window frame industry.
Sustainability also plays an important role in this regard. Because nearly all production in Solingen takes place in-house, Breuer & Schmitz maintains control over both quality and the production process. The company strives to keep the transportation of raw materials to a minimum and uses energy responsibly. According to Breuer & Schmitz, production was even virtually energy-neutral last year, significantly reducing the CO₂ footprint.
Developments are also continuing at the product level. For example, Breuer & Schmitz developed the so-called STC treatment for stainless steel hinges. This treatment is designed to provide additional protection against corrosion in acidic and salty environments. In a recent salt spray test, a treated hinge lasted 480 hours.
Through further investments in production, a broad product line, and ongoing product development, the family-owned business aims to position itself more strongly for future projects. Its own slogan succinctly sums up that ambition: ‘Without us, it’s not a door.’
