Ventistone: Provides Long-Lasting Protection for Window Frames

Wooden window frames give homes and buildings a distinctive look, but they also have a weak spot: moisture. When wooden components remain wet for an extended period, wood rot can develop. Peeling paint is also often a sign that moisture is a factor. Ventistone offers a solution that focuses not only on repairing damage but, above all, on preventing it.

What is Ventistone?

Ventistone is a system of stone-fiber profiles used with wooden window frames and facade elements. The product line includes profiles, sill covers, and fascia boards. These components are made of compressed stone fiber and finished with a water-based coating. The material retains its shape well, is easy to work with, and can be finished with universal paint systems. As a result, it has the same appearance as painted wood.

How does the system work?

Ventistone works based on two principles: water repellency and ventilation. The profiles are installed on the existing window frame. Spacers are placed between the profile and the frame, allowing air to circulate. At the same time, the profile forms a protective layer that prevents rainwater from coming into direct contact with the wood.

The goal is simple: the wooden window frame must remain dry. Because when wood is kept structurally dry, a major cause of wood rot is eliminated. Ventistone therefore compares its function to the battens under roof tiles: there, too, the structure provides protection and ventilation.

Less maintenance

A key advantage of the system is the potential reduction in maintenance. By preventing wood rot and recurring paint defects, fewer repairs and repainting jobs are needed. Ventistone states that this can reduce maintenance costs by up to 50 percent. The exact savings, of course, depend on the situation, the condition of the existing window frame, and the building’s maintenance strategy.

The profiles are resistant to various climatic conditions and, according to the manufacturer, are not affected by moisture. In addition, fire-retardant properties and low-maintenance installation are cited as advantages.

A sustainable approach

Ventistone fits into a maintenance strategy that does not require replacing the entire window frame or facade element. By better protecting existing wooden components, the lifespan of the property can be extended. This aligns with the broader trend in the construction industry toward placing greater emphasis on preventive maintenance, material usage, and extending the lifespan of buildings.

In short, Ventistone is a solution that combines moisture control, ventilation, and protection for wooden window frames. By strategically installing stone-fiber profiles around vulnerable parts of a window frame, wood rot is prevented and paint problems are addressed at their source.
