Kruba: Finding the right machine starts with the right conversation

Translating Production Questions into Practical Solutions

In the window frame and profile industry, when people talk about machines, they’ve long since moved beyond simply discussing sawing, welding, milling, or machining. The question behind the question is usually broader: how do you set up a production process so that it runs reliably today and can still grow with the business tomorrow? Kruba, based in Baarn, has been operating right at that intersection for years. We spoke with owners Niels and Cees van Essen.

The company is no stranger to the industry. Based in Baarn, Kruba supplies machining centers and production lines for materials such as plastic, aluminum, wood, and steel. These range from relatively simple standard machines to complete CNC-controlled lines, including logistics, interconnections, and service. Still, according to Cees, the work rarely starts with a machine. “We first want to understand how a factory operates. What is the current capacity utilization? Where do bottlenecks occur? Which processes require too much manual labor? Only then can you determine which solution is truly the right fit.”

From machine to production line

This approach is timely, as many manufacturers in the market face the same challenge. Demand for window frames remains steady, especially in renovation and sustainability projects. At the same time, skilled technical personnel are in short supply and margins are under pressure. As a result, investing in machinery is not a luxury, but increasingly part of a broader strategy to maintain control over capacity, quality, and cost.

Niels: “A customer wants to produce more reliably, respond more quickly, or achieve the same output with fewer steps. Sometimes a single machine is enough. Other times, you need to look at the entire line: from cutting to machining, from welding to stacking.”

Kruba’s practical experience plays a key role here. The company works with various manufacturers and machine designs, which gives it an inside look at many production floors. It is precisely this combination of technology and practical experience that has made the advisory role more demanding. Not every innovation is automatically the best choice for every factory. The challenge lies in finding the right balance between ambition, investment, space, personnel, and future growth.

Service Is Still a Craft

Just as important is what happens after a machine is installed. In a production environment, downtime is costly. Service, parts supply, and direct communication channels are therefore not a side issue, but an integral part of delivery reliability. “We know that a breakdown never comes at a convenient time,” says Cees. “In that situation, you not only need to understand the technical aspects of the problem, but also be able to coordinate quickly with manufacturers, technicians, and parts suppliers.”

According to Niels, that’s exactly where a specialized machinery supplier needs to set itself apart. “The market knows us. That comes with responsibilities. You have to be accessible, provide honest advice, and continue to think along with the customer as the situation changes. A production line isn’t a static entity. Companies grow, markets shift, and processes become smarter. As a supplier, you have to be able to adapt.”

This makes it, above all, a company that translates production challenges into practical solutions. Down-to-earth, technical, and closely attuned to the shop floor. That’s the essence: not overcomplicating things, but knowing exactly what’s needed to help a manufacturer move forward.
