From procurement to delivery: sustainable from the beginning

Environmental protection has long been a high priority at heroal. The company places great importance on the responsible use of raw materials and energy. Since 2020, heroal has been making a CO2-balance sheet to take targeted measures to reduce its carbon footprint and optimize its system solutions. This is achieved by reducing production emissions and designing the supply chain sustainably. The goal is to reduce total CO2-footprint by 50 percent by 2030 compared to 2020.

When purchasing, heroal has been working for decades with local suppliers who offer high transparency in terms of sustainability. Through energy-efficient production processes and the use of 100% renewable energy, heroal reduces CO2-emissions significantly. A modern, energy-efficient truck fleet is used for deliveries throughout Europe. The use of packaging materials is also continuously reduced.

Energy efficient products for energy efficient buildings

Buildings are responsible for some 40% of global energy consumption while also acting as valuable stores of resources. heroal contributes to the sustainability of both current and future buildings through sustainable, circular and highly insulated system solutions.

Even during the product development process, heroal is intensely concerned with choosing the right materials and opting for healthy, recyclable and CO2-reduced materials with a high percentage of recycled material. The certification of 36 window, door and facade systems according to Cradle to Cradle Certified® confirms the sustainability of heroal products throughout their life cycle. Particularly noteworthy is the consistent Gold certification of heroal system solutions in the categories of material reuse, renewable energy/CO2-management and social responsibility.

With minimal use of materials and excellent insulation values, heroal's system solutions reduce a building's energy requirements and carbon footprint, provide optimal protection against cold and heat, and thus form the basis for certification to DGNB, LEED or BREEAM standards. To this end, heroal offers Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for profile systems of windows, doors, curtain walls, shutter elements and external blinds, among others.
In addition, heroal trade specialists can generate product- and project-specific EPDs independently using the Orgadata software LogiKal and the heroal EPD tool.

heroal Low Carbon Aluminum for sustainable construction projects

heroal chooses aluminum as a recyclable material that is fully circular. It can be recycled endlessly with only 5% of the energy required to produce new aluminum. From 2025, the company will offer all its system solutions based on CO2-reduced aluminum and recycled Post-Consumer Aluminum (heroal Low Carbon Aluminum). By combining renewable energy sources, innovative production methods and recycling, heroal Low Carbon Aluminium makes it possible to further increase the contribution to the realization of sustainable buildings and reduce CO2-footprint of buildings. With the DEKRA-certified offering, the company achieves a carbon footprint of just 1.9 kg of CO2e per kilogram of aluminum (LC-Al C1.9) and a recycling rate of up to 75% (LC-Al R75). Thanks to these properties, heroal system solutions enable building projects that meet the highest sustainability requirements and Green-Building standards.
