One integrated solution for modern doors

Automatic Safety and Smart Access

In today’s construction industry, increasingly higher demands are being placed on safety, ease of use, and accessibility. For professionals in window and door technology, the challenge lies in combining these aspects without compromising reliability or workability. The combination of the GU SECURY Automatic-DR (ADR) and SECURY A-Opener creates a unique integrated solution that addresses precisely these needs.

Mechanically self-locking, no action required

The foundation of the solution is the SECURY Automatic-DR (ADR), a self-locking multi-point lock that engages automatically when the door is closed. The locking bolt on the automatic latch causes both the latch and the strike plate to engage. This results in a double lock with a high level of burglary resistance (SKG **).

“A key technical advantage is that this design not only enhances safety but also improves durability and functionality,” says Marc van Oijen, Architectural Consultant at Gretsch-Unitas (GU). “Even with slight sagging of the door, the latch continues to function reliably. At the same time, the fixed, stable latch ensures an optimal seal, which directly contributes to greater energy efficiency.”
”and comfort."

Motor-driven unlocking with no compromises

While the Automatic-DR provides automatic locking and security, the SECURY A-Opener adds an extra dimension: controlled, motorized unlocking. With a simple signal—for example, via an intercom system or access control—the door can be opened remotely, without the use of a key. “In practice, this means that doors can be easily integrated into modern building management systems,” says Van Oijen. “Think of residential construction projects, commercial buildings, or healthcare settings, where accessibility and control must go hand in hand. The solution also complies with DIN 18040 for barrier-free construction, which is particularly relevant for projects with heightened requirements.”

A key practical advantage is that the SECURY A-Opener can not only be installed in new doors, but can also be retrofitted to an existing SECURY Automatic-DR (ADR). This makes it possible to upgrade projects in phases or easily equip existing doors with electronic access control without having to completely replace the hardware.

Practical to use and apply

Van Oijen knows that practical applicability is an important consideration for manufacturers and system integrators. “The combination of Automatic-DR and A-Opener is designed for easy integration into existing production and assembly lines. Furthermore, the system is fully compatible with existing SECURY-AUTOMATIC solutions and can be flexibly expanded with features such as daytime unlocking and a secure gap. And details such as an audible signal that can be turned on or off when the door is unlocked—without interrupting the power supply—contribute to efficient on-site installation and adjustment. Its wide range of applications in plastic, wood, and metal doors makes the system suitable for a variety of projects.”

Safety in Flight and Panic Situations

Just as important as protection against unauthorized access is ensuring that people can escape from the inside. “This is an essential consideration, particularly in commercial and public buildings,” says Van Oijen. “When using the self-locking SECURY multi-point panic locks on exit doors, the door can always be opened manually from the inside. This ensures that users can quickly and safely exit the building in panic situations without relying on electrical controls or external systems. As a result, the solution seamlessly meets applicable safety standards and practical requirements.” Motorized unlocking can also be easily implemented on these locks using the A-opener.

A Comprehensive Solution for Modern Construction Practices

The combination of GU SECURY Automatic-DR (ADR) and the SECURY A-Opener demonstrates how mechanical security and electronic intelligence can reinforce each other. For professionals in the construction industry, this offers a future-proof solution that combines safety, comfort, and accessibility without compromising on workability or flexibility. In a market where demands continue to rise and projects are becoming increasingly complex, this integrated approach represents a clear step forward.
