For a healthy indoor climate in educational institutions, good natural ventilation is essential. To guarantee optimum air quality in the monumental building of the University of Groningen, Teleflex BV of Tiel recently fitted twenty-two wide opening windows with electric window controls. “These are equipped with the ACK4s synchroonset, which makes the window openers move evenly and stably,” says operations manager Jesse Verheem.
The University of Groningen is one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands, founded in 1614. The historical character of this renowned educational institution requires customized solutions that balance modern comfort with monumental heritage. That was also the main assignment for Teleflex BV, which recently fitted twenty-two opening windows with electric window controls. “Because these are very wide windows, the choice here fell on the ACK4s synchroonset, with two openers mounted per window,” says Verheem. “Thanks to this synchronous function, the window openers - which can open the windows up to a maximum of 40 cm - move evenly and stably, which is essential with such wide windows.”

For both students and staff at RU Groningen, a healthy indoor climate is first priority. Verheem explains
that the installed electric window openers are the ideal solution for this: “The wide opening of 40 cm ensures improved ventilation and thus an optimal indoor climate. In addition, the natural air circulation contributes to a more sustainable energy management; especially in today's times, energy efficiency is obviously essential. And then there is convenience: the electric controls make it easy to open and close the windows automatically. In addition, the windows are equipped with a time lock, so the windows open and close automatically in the morning and at the end of the day at a time of your choice. This also allows perfect control of the desired ventilation. All in all, we are proud that we as Teleflex BV have once again been able to contribute in this way to the preservation and modernization of such a valuable academic heritage.’
In addition to electric window controls, as applied at the RU Groningen, Teleflex also specializes in mechanical window controls, suitable for various applications such as residential construction, government buildings and school complexes.
A long history preceded this: Teleflex was founded on February 4, 1950 in Rotterdam, with the aim of manufacturing and selling long cable remote control systems, known as the Teleflex system. In the same year, the company began designing, manufacturing and assembling suspension runways. Since then, the product range has expanded from simple manually operated monorail systems to fully automated Power & Free systems with a maximum capacity of 5000 kg.
On July 14, 1999, Teleflex became part of the Railtechniek van Herwijnen Group, headquartered in Tiel. This acquisition enabled Teleflex to increase its delivery capacity and respond more flexibly to customer needs. In 2008 Teleflex took over all the activities of Amerflex BV, further expanding its product range to include mechanical and electrical window remote controls, monorail systems and sliding door fittings.

As part of the Railtechniek van Herwijnen Group, the company now also manufactures and installs suspended line systems around the world. Jesse: “Our broad field of application is further underlined by the fact that we are the official dealer in the Benelux of the Swiss top brand GIS, a leading manufacturer of electric chain hoists and lifting solutions. For this we represent the complete hoisting and lifting equipment program.”
