In leafy Amsterdam-Zuid, a 120-year-old home needed to be completely gutted on the inside and redesigned. The owner gave this assignment to interior designer Sebastiaan van Maanen of Interior Studio van Maanen who, with respect for the existing building, created a modern, stylish home. Fully in line with the understated look that was carried through to the smallest details, Olivari door hardware from Intersteel was chosen.
"The starting point for all our projects is 'sophisticated simplicity.' By that, we mean that we treat the 120-year-old heritage with respect, realize a thoughtful design, while at the same time opting for a design with clear, minimalist lines and a warm appearance" said Van Maanen. "And that has been implemented in this five-story residence down to the smallest details."
The overall look is spacious and light, as glass and light colors have been used extensively. For all the door hardware, the Olivari series Lama L designed by Gio Ponti was chosen. This design is characterized by a simple geometric shape so thin that it resembles a blade (llama in Italian).
Executed in brass and with matte anthracite PVD coating, the door handles match perfectly with the faucets chosen in this home. This can be seen brilliantly in the bathroom, which also features a beautiful freestanding bathtub. "Matching the faucet with the door handle is very nice. Apart from the fact that we always loved the design of Gio Ponti's Lama handle and this was the perfect project to choose this handle" Van Maanen emphasizes.
Other details also betray the preference for tasteful accessories. The Olivari Lama L door handles stand on a round rosette that is only 5 mm thin, creating an extremely sleek design. In addition to the door handles, Intersteel also supplied the Lama L window handles, sliding door handles, door stoppers and front door knob in combination with matching security rose. All these accessories match each other excellently in terms of style, giving the whole an extremely well-kept and luxurious appearance.
