In the form of the TS99FL freewheeling closer, dormakaba has been providing a fine piece of proven quality for a quarter of a century. Whereas the series previously included both a version for normal mounting and a model for frame mounting, the introduction of the unique and certified TS99FL K BG brings the number of free swing door closer variants to three. It is a fact that municipalities and building owners in particular will welcome. Simply because this new invention perfectly meets the requirements they have formulated.
A freewheeling door closer allows a door to open without noticeable resistance as if it had no door closer on it. Powered from a fire alarm system or stand-alone smoke detector solution, a door with such a feature can move completely freely. If the voltage drops, the door becomes self-closing at any opening angle. Precisely because of this, the fire separation remains intact and safety is optimally guaranteed. These are advantages that are inseparable from door closers from dormakaba, one of the largest global players in access technology and market leader when it comes to door closers.
An example of the latter product group is the 25-year-old TS99FL series. Until recently, the series consisted of the TS99FL N (for normal mounting) and the TS99FL K (suitable for frame mounting). Two high-quality versions that can also be mounted mirrored to the non-hinge side. "On that side of the door, however, you are often faced with too much recoil, or distance between door and frame," says Geoffrey van den Berg, account manager within dormakaba Netherlands. "This can be solved by filling out or using a corner console. But a corner console again lowers the total passage height required by the Building Code and does not really provide a nice aesthetic appearance."
With a new invention, dormakaba definitely relegates such inconveniences to the past. Based on the existing TS99FL N, the company developed a completely new guide rail and cantilever arm especially for the Dutch market. The result is the TS99FL K BG freewheeling closer, a unique solution certified according to EN 1154 and EN 1155 that is suitable for frame transom mounting on the non-hinge side (aisle side) with a setback between 50 and 96 millimeters. "It is a novelty that complies with the Building Code regulations in every respect and keeps the fire separation intact in every situation," adds Geoffrey. "This is then without restriction in the free passage height and without having to install additional edge timber in the door. Moreover, the cabling is invisible, because it comes from the frame
is put in place."
As with its two "brothers," the TS99FL K BG freewheeling function operates from a 0 degree opening angle. Additionally, versions with an integrated smoke detector and power supply are available within dormakaba's free swing door range. The company even offers non-visible variants that can be incorporated into the door, frame or floor. Talk about further development...
"Furthermore, the entire TS99FL series can be completed with all brands of smoke detectors in accordance with EN 2555," Geoffrey said. "This is possible provided they are equipped with a free potential break contact. So, stand-alone or from a fire alarm system with a 24VDC stabilized power supply. The possibilities are very diverse."
