Wooden interior doors with a style width of only 30 mm

With the introduction of the SlimSeries XS interior door, Skantrae lifts minimalist door design to unprecedented new heights. In addition to the already existing door of 60 mm, the style width of the new interior door is only 30 mm! And that in wood! It is not for nothing that the SlimSeries XS interior door can count on great interest from architects, interior stylists and residents.

Skantrae has been a manufacturer and supplier of interior doors, exterior doors and accessories for more than 40 years and closely follows developments in the market. "For several years now we have seen the demand for flatter, tighter and more modern door solutions grow," says Head of Sales Niels Abbenhuis. "To keep up with this, we have reinvented ourselves, so to speak. And with success, because with the Matching Series - which includes our SlimSeries XS - we are setting a new standard in doors and door designs."

Functional, beautiful and extremely narrow

"At Skantrae, we have always believed in creating solutions that are not only functional, but also beautiful," says Kristie Wanders, Content Marketer at Skantrae. "Our latest SlimSeries XS door underscores this vision and is distinguished by an extremely narrow style of just 30 mm. The unique design is a revolution for the wooden door industry and amazes everyone."

Unique new hardware components

"To make a wooden doorframe of only 30 mm possible, we had to overcome several challenges," acknowledges Arjen Pelgröm, Product Manager at Skantrae. "For example, regarding the suspension of the door. We worked out various components to ensure the quality and functionality one is used to from Skantrae. The result is an extremely minimalist interior door, which meets all the aesthetic and safety requirements you would expect from a door."

Larger hinge blade, flexible handle position

SlimSeries XS is available as both a swing and sliding door, he says. "For the SlimSeries XS swing door, we have developed specific hinges. After all, the mounting space on the wood is limited. Especially since part of the glass door filling also falls into the minimalist door style." A solution was found in a larger hinge leaf with more fastening points, he says. "This allows the force of the door to be transferred better and onto more screws. We also developed an adhesive handle in collaboration with 3M, giving us the ability to develop multiple door models. Last-but-not-least, we developed a minimalist roller lock, so that the interior door always closes perfectly." 

Because there was insufficient room for a handle in the (single) sliding door models, an alternative solution was also devised for this in the form of an innovative metal ring attached to the glass filling, Pelgröm says. "This preserves the sliding door bowl effect." Wanders: "One sliding door model even features a vertical rod that also functions as a sliding handle, with a slight bevel providing maximum grip."

Four contemporary models

Within SlimSeries XS one distinguishes four models: two sliding doors and two hinged doors in specific rod arrangements, which are supplied inclusive of hardware. A deliberate choice, according to Pelgröm, because the hardware is an essential part of the rod division and therefore of the aesthetics of the doors. The SlimSeries XS interior doors were introduced very successfully during the BouwBeurs in Utrecht. The doors are now available in all common interior door sizes and exclusively available in black.

Support from the craftsman

All SlimSeries XS interior doors are manufactured from 100% FSC wood and - as part of the Matching Series - delivered lacquered as standard. For this, Skantrae uses a PU TopCoat, which guarantees a super strong and flexible top layer. "Moreover, this PU TopCoat is wear- and scratch-resistant and prevents discoloration by direct sunlight," Abbenhuis said. "We respond to the customer's wishes to deliver the doors as complete and ready to use as possible, including machining such as lock hole milling, arm planed and finished. So the door is immediately ready for use! This relieves the craftsman and allows him to work much more efficiently. This not only saves time, but also minimizes the chance of mistakes and delays in the construction process."
