The main advantages of large glazing

Modern architecture consists mainly of glass and metal. It is characterized by monumental glazing and the panoramic views that go with it. What advantages do large windows have in residential and commercial buildings?

Contact with nature

We have less and less contact with nature in our daily lives. A home with large windows increases the amount of light and offers more contact with nature, even when we spend a lot of time indoors. This advantage of panoramic glazing is most appreciated by customers.

Functionality and lightness of spaces.

Whether it is a small living room or a large conference room, large glazings give space plus an impression of lightness and openness. It then appears more spacious, and gives the impression of a place where one can breathe freely. An interior with large glazings looks elegant and luxurious.

Interest in glazing as large as possible is not waning. On the contrary, there is a need for increasingly large sizes. Aluprof meets these challenges by offering solutions such as MB-Skyline Type R. This system includes large sliding doors with completely hidden profiles. Its maximum height is 4 meters, so you can create spectacular glass walls, even though the sash can weigh up to 1200 kg - says Michiel van Duren, Managing Director at Aluprof Nederland BV.

Natural light all year round

Large glazing also means unlimited natural light. Bright, illuminated spaces improve occupant well-being and lower energy costs. The same benefits also apply to office buildings and public buildings.

And what about heat losses?

Don't large-area glazings reduce the building's energy balance? Many customers bear this concern. After all, heat loss means not only higher energy costs and the associated environmental costs, but also, above all, economic costs. Fortunately, excessive losses are prevented by contemporary sustainable building solutions. By using systems that guarantee adequate thermal permeability, energy losses are prevented.

An example of such a solution are e.g. facade systems with high thermal insulation, such as MB-104 Passive or MB-86 ST, which provide excellent Uw guarantee parameters (of 0.73 for MB-86 ST and 0.53 for MB-104 Passive). Dedicated energy-efficient constructions allow large glazings to be obtained and maintain the building's energy balance - says Ralph van der Kooij, Sales Manager at Aluprof Nederland BV.

To avoid heat losses, it is also important how the glazing is placed in relation to the wind directions. Placing windows toward the southern and western directions improves the energy balance, as the sun heats the rooms in winter, and at the same time insulated solid walls are placed on the northern, cool side.

We recommend using screens with reflective, translucent and absorbent properties for large glazing in summer. They prevent excessive heating of the room and provide visible light, visibility and optical comfort. Skyroll ZIP or Classic systems can be applied with blinds or external shutters. Another interesting solution are Sky Flow external Venetian blind systems with movable slats, allowing the darkening degree to be chosen - adds the expert to Aluprof added.

Let's Build a Better Future

Modern architecture is betting on large glazings that, if made of suitable materials and supported by systems that reduce the heating of the room, can also be used in energy-saving, ecological constructions. And their aesthetic value cannot be overestimated either!
