Closed loop: avoiding waste and therefore sustainable hinges

As much reuse as possible is the credo

Germany-based hinge specialist Dr. Hahn has been concerned with sustainability, environmental protection and the ecological footprint for years. "But in doing so, we never lose sight of the quality of our products," says Klaus Weiss, Head of Marketing & PR at the manufacturer, which was founded in 1961. In the process, the company recently achieved bronze status in the Eco Vadis rating system, which measures the quality of corporate sustainability management systems.

This status confirms that Dr. Hahn works well at closed-loop production, avoiding as much waste as possible and using raw materials as sparingly as possible. 

"Our main material aluminum is 100 percent recyclable, which is guaranteed by our membership in the A/U/F," says Weiss. "We also use recycled or at least recyclable material in other places where it is technically possible and economically feasible." Thus a customer can count on a Hahn hinge, after it has operated reliably for decades, being recycled and reintroduced into the material cycle. 

At trade fairs, Dr. Hahn is committed to the topic of sustainability. At the last Polyclose, the hinge specialist already presented a 100% reusable exhibition stand.
