Novations in door and window hardware: Minimalist, elegant and functional

Architects and contractors alike are happy to reach for the hardware products, which are available in a wide range of materials, shapes and colors and meet all modern construction requirements and high design standards.

"As an organization, we continuously innovate and optimize our fittings program," explains René Wolken, General Manager of FSB Netherlands. "A good example of this are our ergonomic and hygienic stools and attachments. As a direct response to the corona pandemic, we introduced a plastic attachment that can be easily mounted on 95% of the door handles and which also allows heavier doors to be opened and closed without hand/skin contact. The idea was then further developed into an ergonomically shaped stainless steel door handle with an invisible antibacterial coating, allowing
organisms such as bacteria and organic dirt are immediately broken down. The antibacterial door handle for forearm operation is not only designed for hospitals and healthcare facilities, but suitable for all commonly used interior doors."

'Less is more'

Fully in keeping with the "less is more" trend, FSB has also expanded its range of rose-less window and door handles. New door handle models and versions have been developed in collaboration with well-known designers John Pawson and Matteo Thun, Wolken explains. "John Pawson's door handle is distinguished by a simple and industrial design and is now available in bronze, aluminum and stainless steel. Matteo Thun's handle, on the other hand, has a more elegant and rounded shape, with a slightly wider surface." Both door handles can be finished with a rosette, shield, narrow shield or roseless as desired, he says. "The roseless door handles are suitable for both doors and windows and compatible with various substructures (glass, wood, etc.), ensuring a high-quality and unified aesthetic in any room."

Door handle rosette with locking function

For situations where the minimalist trend, comfort, functionality and privacy are to go hand in hand, FSB also offers a new rose design with integrated locking function.

"The new locking feature is located on the inside of the door," Wolken said. "With just one simple push of the built-in push button, the latch engages and blocks the use of the lock. Similar to a ballpoint pen, pressing the button again also releases the door handle. The rosette with integrated locking function is excellent for toilets and bathrooms, as well as for office and conference rooms where locking is (sometimes) desired. A color disc and the position of the push button in the rosette inform users whether the door is open or closed."

FSB door handles with locking function are available with round and angular roses, in aluminum, stainless steel and bronze. As desired, the new function can be combined with numerous door handle designs.
