Meet a new universally applicable safety hinge

A door without a hinge is like a pub without beer, or to put it in the Breuer & Schmitz (BSW) slogan: "Without us it's not a door. Door-frame combinations in wood, plastic, glass, aluminum or metal, the hinge manufacturer from Solingen, Germany, always has a suitable solution ready.

This can be a standard product, but equally a customized solution. To keep up with the market's more stringent requirements, the company also invests continuously in expanding and optimizing its range. Today, the specialist is introducing an innovative universally applicable security hinge: 818 Protect.

The company Breuer & Schmitz originated in 1883 in Solingen-Wald as a machine builder, focusing primarily on the development and production of special machines for machining metal parts. Soon they also started producing fittings and later specifically developing and producing hinges.

"Breuer & Schmitz has developed into a leading manufacturer of high-quality hinges and pivots for commercial and private residential construction. The range includes the BWS 818 all-round and BWS 804 topforce lines, as well as project hinges, frame constructions, security hinges according to SKG quality mark and hinges, both standard and custom solutions," says Gijs-Bert Drost, account manager for the Netherlands.

"Since the takeover by the Müller family in the year 2000, the company has experienced steady growth. With brothers Patrick and Markus Müller at the helm, the factory was expanded with a welding robot, a laser press, and the grinding shop was also taken in-house. We are also the only hinge manufacturer to have the range certified according to the American Cradle-to-Cradle level bronze. In addition, our hinges with slide bearing are suitable for use with fire-resistant doors and frames."

The hinge manufacturer from Solingen offers a comprehensive range of solutions with the 818 all-round line. Since the three-part knot and the characteristic optics remain unchanged in each case, all existing 818 models can be combined in one home or project.

818 Protect

With the 818 all-round product line, Breuer & Schmitz offers a solution for almost all doors. These hinges with three-part knot are equipped as standard with maintenance-free plain bearing technology, suitable for high loads up to 150 kg (with three hinges). They can be used DIN right and left and are available in different versions with or without a safety pin.

"With the new 818 Protect, we developed a universally applicable security hinge for which you only need a notch. Drilling a hole for the thief pin is no longer necessary and the innovative Protect security hooks serve as a hanging seam limiter at the same time," Drost explains.

"This hinge features improved plain bearings and guarantees a load capacity of up to 150 kg. Like all other hinges in the 818 series, this new hardware is C2C bronze certified and available in galvanized, stainless steel, Accoya^®-proof and black versions as well as in all common sizes. Since the three-piece knot and distinctive optics remain unchanged, all existing 818 models can be combined in one home or project. The standard pin of the 818 prevents watering in at the top."
