Sealing specialist with sustainability as a guiding principle

A window or door is only truly effective if the seal is right. DEVENTER Profielen, based in Breda, has dedicated itself entirely to this specific aspect of window frame construction. As a developer and manufacturer, the company supplies sealing profiles for a wide range of applications. It’s not just about technical performance and flexibility, but increasingly also about sustainability. “We want to work closely with the window frame industry and collaborate with our customers to find the best solution,” says commercial manager Jean-Paul Batenburg.

DEVENTER Profielen develops and manufactures sealing profiles for windows, interior and exterior doors, and lift-and-slide doors, as well as dry-glazing profiles, wall-connection profiles, and stair tread profiles. Based in Breda, the company serves customers both domestically and internationally and, as a member of the ROTO Group, is part of an internationally operating organization.

“Every window and door system is different, and every project has its own requirements,” says Batenburg. “That’s why we always start by asking: Which profile solution is best suited for this specific application?” Factors to consider include wind and water tightness, sound insulation, smoke resistance, and fire retardancy. “We offer a broad standard product range, but we can also develop custom solutions, including under private label. It’s precisely that combination that makes us flexible.”

Short lines

That flexibility is made possible in part because DEVENTER handles production in-house. According to Batenburg, this offers significant advantages. “It allows us to maintain control over both quality and the delivery process. Moreover, we can respond quickly when a customer needs a specific solution.”

The production facility in Breda is organized according to the principles of Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM), with a focus on reducing lead times. “Our strength doesn’t lie solely in high volumes. In fact, short and fast production runs suit us very well. This allows us to respond flexibly to a wide range of customer requests while also achieving short lead times and just-in-time deliveries.”

Ultimately, of course, it all comes down to the profile’s technical performance. Effective gap sealing prevents drafts and, when combined with a good ventilation system, contributes to a healthy indoor climate. “A weatherstripping profile may be just a small part of a complete window or door assembly, but it definitely has an impact on living comfort and energy performance,” emphasizes Batenburg.

DEVENTER holds various ISO and IFT certifications, and many of its seals carry the KOMO quality mark. In addition, various profiles for inward- and outward-opening windows and doors have been tested for air permeability. “Our sealing profiles are suitable for Class 3 airtight construction and meet the most stringent Class 4 requirements according to NEN-EN 12207.”

Environmentally Conscious

In addition to performance and ease of use, sustainability is playing an increasingly important role. The sealing profiles are made from TPE, a thermoplastic elastomer. “That material is reusable,” explains Batenburg. “In addition, all of our sealing profiles have an Environmental Product Declaration, prepared and verified by ift Rosenheim. This allows us to provide transparency regarding the environmental impact of our products.”

DEVENTER is also one of the founders of the C2C Construction Group. “As far as we’re concerned, sustainability shouldn’t be viewed separately from quality. A profile must be durable, perform well, and at the same time be produced and installed as responsibly as possible.”

Easy processing

Ease of installation also remains important. For example, newer profile series combine a secure fit in the groove with high insulation performance and a comfortable closing force. “The installer must be able to work with them comfortably, and the end user must ultimately benefit from a door or window that closes securely, without drafts and with a high level of comfort.”

After decades of specialization, the path forward for DEVENTER is now clear. “Above all, we want to continue doing what we do best: staying close to our customers, providing personalized advice, and finding the right profile solution for every application,” concludes Batenburg. “Whether that’s a standard profile or a fully custom solution. In doing so, we want to offer solutions that not only perform well technically but also meet the increasingly high standards for sustainable construction.”
