Expansion of the Market Square Church in Hoofddorp

Transformation to be future-proof

The Marktpleinkerk in Hoofddorp has undergone an impressive transformation to become future-proof and provide more space for the Protestant Congregation Hoofddorp. Thanks to the collaboration between Dok Architects, Bouwgroep Horsman & Co, and installer Edwin Philip of Belfort, a sustainable and inviting extension has been realized. DUCO made an important contribution with the architectural sun protection systems DucoSun Ellips and DucoSun Cubic.

A monument in a new look

The Market Square Church is a historic landmark in Hoofddorp. The growing need for a larger, multifunctional space made a large-scale renovation inevitable. Dok Architecten's design combines modern architecture with respect for the original building. The result is a harmonious whole in which light and space are central.

Sun protection: a combination of design and functionality

To prevent overheating, they chose the advanced shading systems DucoSun Ellipse and DucoSun Cubic. These solutions not only provide effective shading, but also enhance the architectural appearance of the building.

DucoSun Ellipse:

The elegant, elliptical louvres create a dynamic facade appearance that blends seamlessly with the modern design of the extension. DucoSun Ellips 200 louvers were used at the Market Square Church. These aerodynamic louvres offer an optimal balance between daylighting and solar heat reduction. They reflect sunlight effectively, are made of durable aluminum and require little maintenance.

DucoSun Cubic:

The sleek, geometric shape of the DucoSun Cubic slats gives the building a powerful and distinctive character. The cross in the facade, composed of DucoSun Cubic 300 slats, adds a unique architectural dimension. Thanks to the modular design, both slat systems are flexible in size and applications.

Collaboration as the key to success

The successful completion of this project is due to the close cooperation between all parties involved. Installer Edwin Philip of Belfort ensured flawless installation of the sun protection systems. Bouwgroep Horsman & Co took on the project management and execution, while the Protestant Congregation Hoofddorp, as client, had a clear vision of the desired appearance and functionality.

A future-proof meeting place

With the transformation of the Marktpleinkerk, Hoofddorp has gained a sustainable and versatile building. It provides space for church services, cultural events and social activities.
