Which sills come into the picture for door and frame manufacturers?

Strong, dimensionally stable, low U-value, lightweight and easy to assemble: it is not for nothing that MACO Benelux sills are eagerly sought after by door and frame manufacturers. The new concept takes this even a step further, combining effective insulation against heat loss to the outside and an improved flat design with a high-quality and durable finish.

MACO Benelux is one of the twelve branches of the Austrian company Mayer & Co Beschläge GmbH; a family business and world leader in the development and production of hardware systems for (swing) windows, doors and sliding doors. "From our logistics center in Zelhem, we supply total solutions for residential and commercial construction," says Koen Vossers, Product Specialist at MACO Benelux. "Our wide range includes not only extensively tested and certified hardware solutions for wooden and plastic systems, but also matching door hinges, door locks, hinges and seals. Popular, moreover, are our sills, which are produced entirely in-house in Zelhem." 

Right the first time

In doing so, MACO Benelux uses, for example, a machine park with two CNC machines, which pre-process the sill profiles and buttresses and provide them with drill holes. "MACO GRP sill systems offer solutions for interior and exterior doors, swing windows and lift-slide systems. The basis of our sills is a dam of 42 and 47 mm with a maximum length of 5.80 m. Door and frame manufacturers can select the sill based on flexibility, stock, assembly, delivery time and convenience, among other factors. They are then supplied with a completely assembled sill, which they can install properly under the frame very easily and in one go." 

The MACO sill owes its good properties in part to the fact that it is made partly from a fiberglass-reinforced base profile with a high-quality finish.

Sleek, smooth and excellent insulation 

The sills made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic are KOMO-certified and are constantly being further developed, based on our own insights and customer requirements. "For example, for swing windows, the grooves in our sills were not always desirable, says Vossers. "Instead, we engineered a new sill with a very sleek and black matte finish. The chamber under the dam has also been sealed, making the sill even more solid. In addition, we now have the possibility to additionally insulate the sills. For this we use specially tailored insulation strips."

High quality surface finish

The most important change, however, is the new finish, which is even tighter and stronger and permanently masks glass fibers or other imperfections. "Because we also implemented the finish at the same time for our lift-slide sills, a high-quality and uniform color is also guaranteed here," Vossers said. "Because the finish is extremely weather-resistant, UV radiation, frost or heat do not have a chance to affect the sills. This allows end users to enjoy their beautiful door or lift-slide sill even longer."

From this ordering tool, the CNC machines are also controlled directly, so errors due to communication noise are not an issue, according to Vossers. "For all standard orders the following applies: ordered today, is in most cases delivered within fifteen working days."
