Unique solution for sash overlapping doors works via magnetism

The façade is often a home's calling card, which is why a beautiful, secure front door cannot be missing. Harinck, a specialist in aluminum and PVC door panels, has therefore been committed to creating the most beautiful front door designs for 35 years. The specialist also set out to find a solution to the well-known problem of warping sash-over doors and developed the unique and revolutionary Magnetude front door system for this purpose.^®, which works through magnetism.

Solving the problem of dilation

Wing-covering doors are all the rage. However, in a classic wing-covering system, door panels are glued to the door leaf, which can cause the door to warp and jam. That problem was widely known, but no one could solve it. Harinck's R&D department proposed a unique system in which the door panels are not glued to the door leaf, but are simply mounted via a magnetic principle: Magnetude^®.

"Dilatation is a thing of the past thanks to this innovation, because when heated, only the outer plate of the door expands. The door leaf, on which the hinges and lock sit, does not warp, so the door cannot pinch. This is obviously revolutionary for doors made of PVC and aluminum," manager Franck De Munster explains the operation of this patented system.

"In conducting the tests, we found that our development not only solved the problem of deformation, but also provided significant time savings in door production, specifically from 2.5 hours to 6 minutes."     

Time savings in production

The production of a classic wing covering door takes a lot of time. First, the lip of the wing profile is milled away, then the wing is rubbed and degreased before applying a primer to the wing and outer aluminum plate. Next, the glue side of the wing plate is degreased before applying glue to wing and plate. Finally, both parts are positioned and pressed.

With Magnetude®, the sandwich panel is assembled to glass size, after which the outer sheet is installed via the magnetic principle. All in as little as 6 minutes.

"That takes about 2.5 hours and afterwards this door system has to dry for another 12 hours. It is also recommended to wait 24 hours before transporting them to the construction site," Franck said. "At Magnetude^® the sandwich panel is assembled to glass size, after which the outer plate is installed via the magnetic principle. This completes the job after only 6 minutes. Versatile solution

Magnetude^® fits any PVC or aluminum profile system, whether one-sided (exterior) or two-sided (exterior and interior) sash overlay. While with a glued sash overlay system it is not always possible to perfectly calibrate the door leaf using calage blocks, this is not a problem with this technology with magnetude. "The Magnetude^®-doors can be perfectly combined with a new range of door pulls. These are not fixed through, so the inside of the door is a perfectly even surface, so without visually disturbing elements," indicates De Munster. "Moreover, burglars don't get a chance. Even if they should succeed in removing the 2.5 mm outer plate, they are still confronted with a classic door panel that is fixed with the glass lath in the glass rebate."

The owner has the ability to easily change the look and feel of the front door without the use of tools.

Processor and builder win

However, it is primarily the processor and the owner of the home who benefit to the maximum extent. It remains a nightmare, that doors are damaged by other tradesmen on the construction site between the windproofing of the house and the delivery, so that with a classic system a new sash and cover panel have to be made immediately. With Magnetude^® the filler panel is installed as a preliminary panel and the wing top plate can be assembled by one man the day before delivery.

"If damage to the outer plate, inner plate or glazing should occur later, all elements can be replaced separately," concludes Franck De Munster. "Moreover, the owner has the opportunity to change the look and feel of the front door in an easy way, without the use of tools. In five minutes, a classic door with decorative frames thus becomes a modern, sober door. And with a magnet, all kinds of decoration can also be attached to the outer leaf of the door, without screwing or gluing."
