The focus today is less on heating a building and more on cooling it. Solar shading is an ideal solution to control heat and regulate daylight. Until recently, architects, contractors and building owners immediately thought of interior or exterior shading. Polysun® however, has introduced a unique concept to the market, combining its knowledge of glass with know-how around solar shading and light control and incorporating a blind, plissé, plissé black out or roller blind into the insulating glass
is integrated.
Relatively unknown prior to the previous edition of Polyclose, the company has built a strong reputation in the market with its solutions. At this edition of the trade fair, Polysun is picking up® out with a number of revolutionary innovations.
With Polysun's systems® people can play with natural light. By tilting the system, it either blocks out sun and heat as needed or lets in sun, heat and daylight. With a proper form of control and suntracking, this creates a dynamic facade that fits perfectly within today's requirements.
"Until a few years ago, this form of sun protection was unknown, but in the meantime we can already present a broad portfolio of references. These range from homes with 2 units to offices, hospitals, hotels, restaurants and other buildings with sometimes dozens or hundreds of systems. Each project is unique and requires a tailor-made solution," says managing director
Albert Cash.
"Our systems regulate the amount of light, but they are also able to admit and block heat. What we are currently seeing is that within residential market there is a choice to equip the entire house with our systems. The fact that those
systems require no maintenance is decisive for many. The highly reflective louvers used particularly in projects allow light into the building, while the coating on louvers "pushes" heat out so it stays cool inside. Solar shading in insulating glass achieves values equal to exterior solar shading. By choosing the right combination, we can get down to G-values of five percent."
Polysun® is meanwhile investing heavily in expanding and optimizing its range. To meet the stringent thermal insulation requirements, the move to special triple glazing was made. In today's windows, the combination of triple glazing with integrated shading results in thicker and heavier units.
That is why Polysun started® a collaboration with AGC Glass Europe, which today allows Polysun to offer a highly thermally and acoustically insulating solution with excellent light transmission and solar control properties®-systems can be combined with Fineo vacuum glass.
This allows systems from a thickness of only 28 mm to be made. This dynamic solution has been extensively tested and has also been used in several pilot projects.
"The integration of motorized slat and black out systems in double or triple glazing is an excellent solution for veranda roofs and skylights. When you cover such light sources with a cloth or permanent coating, you keep the heat out, but you also keep much of the light out, which is a problem especially on colder, darker days. Whoever installs cloths must take into account frequent maintenance so they don't get dirty too quickly," Albert Contant continues.
"We also offer a solution where we integrate our systems into heatable glass in the facade or roof. This perfectly eliminates the thermal bridge that everyone is familiar with with glass in the facade and thus greatly increases comfort. The combination of heatable glass with an integrated shading system makes this solution even more effective. With this, windows are no longer an energy loss and offer comfort."
As fenestration continues to expand, Polysun must® can also produce Venetian blind, pleated, plissé black out or roller blind systems with larger dimensions. For several projects and homes, systems with two simultaneous slat systems in one cavity have already been realized, making areas up to over 12 m² possible.
From the market, however, there was repeated demand for one-piece solutions. That's where Polysun® in now with a one-piece system for heights up to 4 meters and areas up to 10 m².
The manufacturer is also in the process of expanding its options with plissé black out. Until today, this version was only available with a wide cavity and was therefore not applicable everywhere. "Starting at Polyclose, we will offer a solution with narrow cavity and a new adapted black out fabric," says Dr. K. K., president of Polysun. At Polysun® so at least they are not sitting still, and the results can be seen at Polyclose.
