These products allow exterior joinery to be installed and sealed more efficiently

An uninterrupted thermally insulated and airtight building envelope is indispensable for buildings to meet increasingly stringent energy standards. Soudal, renowned manufacturer of quality insulation and sealing products, offers solutions for optimal installation and sealing of exterior joinery. At Polyclose, all the spotlights will be on the total package that the specialist can offer for the window and door sector. With some innovations in the area of the modular window mounting system SoudaFrame SWI, the products for windows and doors and the solutions for the connection between external joinery and masonry, there is again a lot of news to discover at the booth.

The Soudal Group focuses on construction, industry and retail with products in different groups: silicones and other mastics, PU foams, adhesives, coatings, technical aerosols and construction chemicals. 

"We are continuously investing in our production sites at home and abroad and are pursuing targeted acquisitions. At Tenachem in Latvia, for example, they produce joint sealants for sealing double-glazing, and by acquiring Belgian company Sapac P&R, we can offer solutions for (post-)insulating PVC or aluminum window profiles," says product manager Steven Van Orshaegen. "Innovation is the driver of our organic growth. At Polyclose, we are once again highlighting a number of these innovative solutions."

Intelligent modular window mounting system

Pre-frame SoudaFrame SWI, made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, is ideally suited for exterior wall insulation systems (ETICS) and ventilated façade systems, where the interior wall is erected first and only then the insulation and façade trim are installed. When the window is installed in the insulation plane, the isotherms run straight through insulation and window, achieving significantly better heat loss scores at the wall-window transition (psi values). 

"This insulation frame, available in four sizes, can be assembled both in the workshop and on site and then mounted as a single unit on the wall using our Soudaseal SWI, a hybrid adhesive with high initial adhesion. This leaves the installer's hands free to further fully secure the pre-frame with a few bolts. Unique spring clips guarantee a uniform joint between pre-frame and window frame. Even before the start of construction, it is therefore possible to calculate exactly how much product is needed to seal the window connections," explains the product manager. 

"After the window frame is screwed directly into the SoudaFrame SWI frame, the clips can be removed and the opening sealed with Flexifoam and our liquid Soudatight membranes, for example. By the way, SoudaFrame SWI also scores highly in terms of burglar resistance, as it achieved class RC3 without additional measures."

Industrial products and liquid membranes

Under the name Soudal Window Manufacturing (SWM), Soudal also launched a collection of high-end industrial products for use in the production of windows and doors. Finally, the specialist also offers specific solutions for sealing between exterior joinery and masonry, such as liquid membranes. For example, Soudatight is a series of high-performance polymer pastes that, once dry, form a completely seamless and elastic membrane, ideal for airtight and vapor barrier finishing of surfaces. But it is also ideal for penetrating window, wall, floor-to-wall, wall-to-ceiling and roof connections). Soudal continues to expand and optimize this family of liquid membranes. At Polyclose, they are launching a new waterproofing membrane, Soudatight WP, for sealing lower patio doors, among others.

Passive House certification

"The SoudaFrame SWI pre-frame system carries the Passive House certification, which even applies to three different climate zones, specifically cold-moderate, cold and warm-moderate. It is the first time that a component has been tested and passed the Passive House Institute's criteria of different climate zones," concludes van Orshaegen. 

"The airtightness membranes are also Passive House-certified components, allowing them to be used for projects with extremely high airtightness requirements. This certificate, in combination with the ift MO-01/1 test, shows that we are able to guarantee high-quality and durable airtight sealing of window joints, even in real-world applications."
