This is the objective of the circular facade economy that the facade industry is working on together with the government. Five industry associations launched the new website, circulairegeveleconomie.nl.
What is at issue here are metal, wood and plastic facades with associated components such as glass and hardware. The manufacturers in this industry want to take joint responsibility. That means keeping the quality of facades as high as possible and using sustainably produced renewable and recyclable materials. This way, facades, facade products and materials are suitable for the next cycle in biological and technical cycles. But it also means designing in such a way that buildings can be easily disassembled so that products can be "cleanly" reused or recycled again. And designing the entire return logistics accordingly.
In 2020, the study "Exploring producer responsibility for facade construction" was completed, which was promised to the Lower House by the Cabinet. This showed an enormous potential for circular construction and CO2 reduction. The facade industry has entered into discussions with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations about the goals, agreements and activities toward 2030. Meanwhile, the "Circular Facade Economy Chain Agreement" has been developed. The facade industries have sent an invitation to both Ministries to cooperate in this. The exploratory report, the roadmap to 2030 and the further steps towards a Circular Facade Economy can be found on the website.
The Circular Facade Economy is an initiative of five trade associations in the facade construction industry: the Metal Windows and Facade Industry Association (VMRG), the Plastic Facade Elements Industry Association (VKG), Dutch Trade Association for the Carpentry Industry (NBvT), Bouwend Nederland Vakgroep Glas and Algemene Branchevereniging Hang- en Sluitwerk (VHS).
