Urban living in old age. That's what the Burano nursing home in the Dutch town of Zaandam just 20 minutes from Amsterdam lives up to. The home has 144 apartments and is tailored to the needs of elderly residents.
The senior-friendly apartments allow residents to be independent, while proximity to the nursing home offers them safety and security. Large GEALAN S 9000 EN windows in GEALAN-acrylcolor® anthracite gray and cream white colors illuminate the apartments and offer panoramic views. "Interaction" was the central idea behind the design of the complex.
The residential buildings are connected by a raised deck. The community garden and semi-open space between the buildings serve as meeting places where people can sit, converse and share together. This is how socially oriented building is built!
