Golden window frames taste like more in heart of Heerenveen

Unique coloring technology provides scratch-resistant, colorfast and weather-resistant window frames

Just in time for the season, PUUR IJs & Chocolade opened the golden doors of its completely renovated premises in the center of Heerenveen in March 2024. In addition to the doors, all wooden window frames were also replaced, by plastic window frames with GEALAN-acrylcolor® Gold on the outside. The stylish and sustainable transformation proved to be a great success; less than a year later, the entire shopping block was fitted with new, gold window frames.

Parisian allure in Heerenveen

The idea for this chic color came from property manager Folkert Sinnema, in consultation with the Heerenveen-based architectural firm Binnenbrand. Folkert explains, "It was inspired by the characteristic facades in Paris, where you see gold much more in the streetscape." In addition, he wanted maintenance-friendly window frames and a sustainability upgrade for the tenants. He successfully outsourced manufacturing and assembly to their regular, local partner KKFH (Kunststof Kozijnen Fabriek Heerenveen).

A bold choice

Initially, it involved ten window frames for one building, manufactured with the GEALAN S 9000 NL base profile. "This is the profile we work with the most, it simply delivers the best performance in terms of insulation, wind and water tightness and has a very long lifespan," explains Siebren Marinus, account manager at KKFH. "The color choice, on the other hand, was new to us. Using test samples from GEALAN, we investigated the possibilities together. The Gold version was a bold choice, but really turned out very well!" 

The unique coloring technique GEALAN-acrylcolor®

In the GEALAN-acrylcolor® coloring technique, the plastic profile melts together in extrusion with acrylic glass in color. The profile, the acrylic glass and the color coating are inseparable. The layer is scratch-resistant, colorfast and resistant to all weather conditions. It is available in a very wide range of colors, including metallic colors and thus this exclusive gold color. "We have had a pleasant cooperation with KKFH for many years and enjoy thinking along with them about their wishes and the possibilities," says Mark Beukert, Head of sales at GEALAN Benelux. "We are very pleased that we were able to contribute to this wonderful project with our profiles and unique color technique."

One brilliant eye-catcher

After the reopening of the ice cream parlor and chocolate shop, plans were immediately ready for the refurbishment of ten more properties. "The center is going to be shaken up and this will be the busiest shopping street," Folkert looks ahead. "We are pleased that we have already made a sustainable and stylish investment with this." All the wooden or aluminum window frames of the other stores will have been replaced by KKFH's plastic window frames in the fall of 2024, with the same splendid exterior color. This sets the tone; the entire shopping block in the heart of Heerenveen has become one magnificent eye-catcher.
