Million-dollar project gets underway. Opening ceremony high-rise warehouse in Tanna

With the opening ceremony for a fully automated high-rise warehouse that took place at its production and logistics site in Tanna, GEALAN has kicked off another milestone. The construction project is expected to cost around 14 million euros, making it one of the largest investments in the history of the plastic profile manufacturer. The new high-rise warehouse is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2024.

Taking logistics to the next level

That after months of intense planning, excavators are once again crossing the industrial park of
Kapelle can move, fills the GEALAN directors with pride and joy. Ivica Maurović: "With this multi-million dollar investment, we are making
GEALAN more future-proof and responsive. Moreover, it is a clear investment in our Tanna facility and in the entire region."

Tino Albert adds, "The investment in our high bay warehouse will take our logistics to the next level. With the capabilities of fully automated warehouse management, we at GEALAN will be able to plan, work and deliver even more efficiently."

Some figures

In terms of dimensions, GEALAN's high bay warehouse will have a length of 125 m, height of 26 m and width of 22 m. The number of storage spaces created will be 5020, with a load capacity per cassette of 1,700 kg. About 70 cassette changes can be performed per hour. Storage and retrieval of goods in the high-bay warehouse are controlled by modern software and performed by two warehouse cranes. This increases the speed and safety of operations. The physical strain on employees is significantly reduced by the ergonomic design of the order picking stations.

The advantages of a high bay warehouse

A high bay warehouse is a warehouse with racking at least 12 meters high. It normally provides several thousand pallet storage spaces and both flat and long goods can be stored there. GEALAN will build a so-called automated roll-out warehouse at its Tanna site by 2024. Automated high bay warehouses or roll-out racks make optimal use of the available space because the height allows a lot of volume to be stored in minimal area. Moreover, for the same reason, there is no need to travel long distances for the delivery and removal of goods. Thanks to full automation, even large, heavy and unwieldy goods are delivered quickly and efficiently.
