Specialist develops heat-reactive adhesive tape

While conventional methods such as bolting, riveting and welding can damage materials and cause corrosion, connecting those materials can also be done in a careful manner with the help of double-sided tapes. With 7,000 different products for a wide variety of applications, tesa is® THE specialist. The company is now introducing a state-of-the-art heat-reactive self-adhesive tape that allows materials to be bonded first and then powder coated: tesa® FUSE 45012.

In the 21st century, adhesives are more than ever the connection technology of choice in the construction industry. There are many reasons why double-sided tapes from tesa® are better than most conventional fastening methods. They are distinguished by their great adhesive strength, even on difficult materials, and their very high initial adhesion. They can also be applied in a quick and easy way, significantly improving productivity and efficiency. There is no drying time and no extra work to remove adhesive residues. These tapes have excellent impact resistance, provide a complete seal with no visible joints and even out surface irregularities.

The heat-reactive self-adjusting tape is applied during assembly and gains its final strength during the baking process. In the end, the tape has high bonding strength, can withstand high temperature and remains permanently elastic.

tesa® FUSE

"With the development of the tesa® FUSE 45012 we go one step further, because this is a heat-reactive self-adhesive tape, with which one can first bond materials, before powder coating. This 1.2 mm thick tape has an adhesion of 310 N/cm² after a curing period of 30 minutes at 200°C and an elongation at break of 360%," states business development manager Andreas Stein of tesa®

"The tesa® FUSE 45012 can be used as an adhesive tape during assembly: simple, fast and clean. This innovative solution withstands typical chemical pre-treatments, the cleaning and drying process as well as high oven temperatures. During baking, the tape cures to its final strength. After powder coating, the heat-reactive tape has a very high adhesion strength, withstands temperatures up to 120°C and also remains sufficiently elastic to compensate for the thermal expansion of different metal types."
