Facade renovation and transformation with foil is real 'eye candy'

Anyone who has bought new shoes and put them next to the old ones knows the feeling that evokes. You thought when the new shoes were not yet in sight, that the old ones could actually last. Until you see the difference and secretly feel ashamed of how you looked. Clients who commission Holland Geveltechniek to use foil to wrap window frames and cladding get exactly that feeling. "You just see those people fall in love with their own building all over again when they see the end result," says Henk de Bruin, director at Holland Geveltechniek. "That's why it's the most beautiful work there is. Pure sight work with an enormously positive impact. Therefore, when we are busy, we always have a lot of public standing around watching, because something beautiful is happening."

Sustainability at its best

That a renovation or transformation with foil is an optical feast is obvious. However, the benefits you don't see are even greater. De Bruin: "To the outside world we deliver a piece of 'eye candy', that's true. But you also have to realize that working with renovation film is enormously sustainable. First, because you give windows, doors and cladding a second life. Second, because the film protects the aluminum better than the original coating on it. Third, because no dismantling, transportation, spraying, transport and assembly are required - just count what that saves in CO₂-emissions- and as
Last, but not least, we have hardly any waste. No residual material is left behind."

Beautiful projects, grateful clients

De Bruin takes us through some recent projects at a glance. "We took care of a commercial building in Hoofddorp. The special thing about this job is that we used traditional painting in addition to foil. There was no other way, because the facade parts between the windows consisted of coarse gravel tiles. The building we found was empty and had a dismal appearance, in old-fashioned gray and blue. We wrapped all the aluminum parts in RAL 7016 and had the gravel tiles painted bright white. A huge upgrade and what was our surprise? In the new look, the building was rented out almost immediately afterwards!"

Arnhem has also recently started to look prettier locally. "A beautiful company building, but with an outdated look in worn blue. Here too we completely coated the aluminum window frames, facade parts and the entrance door in RAL 7016. And yes, everyone agreed that we left the place looking nicer again than we found it."

Next, De Bruin takes us to Mijdrecht, where 8 business units are feeling young again. "A beautiful transformation this was, from green to RAL 7016 on the window frames and the plating of the stairwells. We thoroughly cleaned the silver facade parts and then applied a matte metallic silver foil. A brilliant end result!"

De Bruin saves the best for last: A Rotterdam home built under architecture, right on his native soil. "As a Rotterdammer, you are proud of your city. So when you get a commission to take care of a house on the very spot where you were born, it does something to you. The house looks like a dike house, but could just as well be a bridge keeper's house in terms of model. The aluminum parts were black and contrasted sharply with the walls. Formerly perhaps very beautiful and up to date, but now really in need of change. We left the house with a beautiful metallic aluminum colored wrap, which together with the white walls makes for an atmospheric whole."
