Wilms invests more than 8 million euros despite corona

Wilms in Meerhout has been a specialist in roller shutters and blinds since 1975. Today, Wilms is building for the future and transforming its showroom into the Wilms Experience Center. The renovation of the showroom marks the start of a series of 8 million euro investments.

Investment plan spread over three years

Erik Wilms, ceo of Wilms: "The entire showroom, offices and meeting rooms will be tackled this summer and converted into an experience space of no less than 700m². In this way, we want to be able to serve our business customers, as well as architects and contractors, even better. They will be able to discover our innovative products under ideal conditions. We will also use the Wilms Experience Center for events, both internal and external. We are aiming for the fall to fully complete the renovation."

After the total rebranding in early 2020 and the showroom makeover, Wilms continues to invest. Production manager Pascal Vandeplas adds: "Spread over three years, we are investing a total of no less than €8.3 million. This year, for example, we will take care of the roof of our production hall and install our own production line to make the cloths for our screens in-house. Construction of a central warehouse on our site at Molsebaan in Meerhout will follow in 2021."

Pop-up showroom: Batibouw in Meerhout

"We found that despite corona, the demand for blinds and shutters was on the rise. Therefore, we built up our exhibition stand at Batibouw in the production hall. Thus we created a pop-up showroom of more than 100m² with an overview of our main products. At this time of year, sun protection in particular is in great demand, with both screens and articulated shutters attracting enormous interest," says Andres Lesire, Wilms' marketing manager.
