Simply intelligent: the new AirKey-Cloud Interface

An unlimited number of applications thanks to the new, secure interface.

AirKey, where the smartphone is the key, has been extended with an interface (API). "Thanks to the AirKey interface, the number of possible applications of AirKey has expanded considerably. For example, it is the ideal solution for customers managing infrastructure and energy facilities," says Hanspeter Seiss, head of AirKey product management at EVVA. When internationally distributed companies need to be well secured and easily accessible for service, a flexible and highly secure system like AirKey is the right choice. With the AirKey cloud interface, a key can then be sent directly from the maintenance system to a service technician's smartphone in their own software.

Farewell key transfer

One way the system can be used is when people are in different locations. When renting out a vacation rental or hotel rooms, managers have to hand over a key to each new guest. This becomes a thing of the past thanks to giving access authorization via smartphone. With the AirKey cloud interface, this is also possible from the in-house reservation software. Another use case for the cloud interface is control centers of rescue servicesL "In emergencies, the interface also makes everything much easier here. It allows us to grant the rescue team automatic access via notification," Seiss said.

Simple incorporation

"Whether it is in the housing sector, the association sector, in mobile care services, in fitness studios, in shared offices or even in entire municipalities or cities, with the cloud interface there are no boundaries that limit us." For example, integration into a company's existing HR software is very interesting. AirKey can immediately send the configured key to the smartphone when an employee joins the company. The interface connects the available software to the AirKey online system. This allows certain functions of AirKey to be controlled directly through the available software. "To enable exchange between the AirKey-online system and the software, the software must be modified. This can be done by an integrator or programmer of the relevant software," Seiss said.

As secure as internet banking

Of course, there is always that question again: is it secure enough? Johannes Ullman, founder and head of AirKey technical product management at EVVA, explains how the best security is also ensured with the cloud interface: "AirKey's strict security measures have been consistently implemented in the cloud interface. The AirKey cloud interface is secured by means of API keys. In addition, all communication is encrypted. API access can therefore be restricted to certain IP addresses. In addition, as of now, the "Two-step verification" option can be used as an additional security measure. Users then receive an SMS on each login attempt, just like in online banking, to log in as administrator."

Activating the interface with KeyCredits

Activating the interface requires 350 KeyCredits. For this, users can either use their existing quantitative balance of KeyCredits or the one-time-use KeyCredits card for the AirKey cloud interface. "My tip: make sure you have sufficient KeyCredits and activate the 'Receive important instructions from EVVA by e-mail' function. That way you will receive timely information when your KeyCredits expire or are used up," Seiss said.
