Well-known Alpenroyal hotel opts for Wicona solutions

WICONA has installed some of its highly sophisticated aluminum solutions on the facade of the wellness center of the five-star Alpenroyal Hotel, located in Selva di Val Gardena in the Dolomites (Italy). The company collaborated with architectural firm Perathoner, which chose an extremely elegant architectural style. WICONA, with its WITEC 50 and WICTSYLE 75 solutions, overcame all difficulties and perfectly met the project specifications.

CONTEXT

The conversion of a hotel requires a continuous and accurate analysis of the natural environment so that the visual ecosystem remains intact. Indeed, many of these projects regularly face negative opinions on the execution of the works because the architects and building owners do not properly identify the constraints in advance.

In the case of the Alpenroyal hotel in Selva di Val Gardena, due to the fact that this complex is located in the Dolomite region (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Perathoner was forced to think about which elements might affect the work, in order to come up with customized solutions that fit perfectly into the landscape.

In addition, the project managers also had to consider climatic constraints. Since the hotel is located in an area with strong wind gusts that

located at an altitude of more than 1,500 meters, Italian architects had to think carefully about which building systems could perfectly withstand these climatic challenges.

CUSTOMER

The Alpenroyal Grand Hotel opened its doors in 1956 and is located in a beautiful natural setting overlooking the Dolomites, a mountain range recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The hotel's management board had previously ordered renovations to provide guests of the hotel, as in the wellness center, with absolute comfort, a place where they can immerse themselves in welcome elegance. The hotel offers a wide range of services: three saunas, two steam rooms, a gym, a Kneipp Bath and a majestic relaxation area where guests can relax in front of the fireplace and the breathtaking view of the natural scenery of the Dolomites. The management teams that have succeeded each other over the years were always focused on adapting the complex to the needs of the clients with the intention of providing them with optimal comfort.

PROBLEMATION

During the latest renovations of the wellness center and the hotel, the team responsible for the smooth running of the works faced all kinds of constraints. Because of the high altitude (1,500 meters) at which the hotel is located, the technical managers and architects had to ask themselves the question: how can we deal with the very low temperatures in winter and the regular strong wind gusts of over 100 km/h? In addition, the hotel management had stated in the building specifications that they wanted to provide the clients of their wellness center with as much transparency as possible so that they received a unique experience in an environment that feels both modern and natural.

GOALS

So, from a technical point of view, there were two goals. On the one hand, effective thermal insulation had to be used to cope with strong winds and low temperatures. On the other hand, the architectural firm Perathoner, concerned about aesthetics and design, asked WICONA's technical managers to think about a solution that was perfect to incorporate and would also meet environmental standards, since the hotel is located on a Unesco-listed mountain range.

SOLUTION

We decided to use the WITEC 50 solution on the front facade, and the WICSTYLE 75 EVO system on the entrance doors of the wellness center. With these two solutions, WICONA's technical managers knew for sure that all requirements had been met. Indeed, according to the DIN EN 13830 standard, the test results of the WITEC 50 system guarantee an AE classification with regard to air permeability. According to the same standard, the WITEC 50 solution is classified as RE 1200 with respect to seals, and can withstand wind gusts of 2000/-3000 Pa.

Another technical feature of the WITEC 50 solution for facades is its strong acoustic insulation, which is a fundamental component for a wellness center to ensure customer well-being and satisfaction. This WICONA model for facades offers an acoustic insulation of Rw (C ; Ctr) = 47 (-1; -4) dB. Moreover, the WICTEC 50 curtain wall has achieved silver status according to the C2C product standard.

For the entrance doors to the hotel's wellness center, WICONA suggested installing a WICSTYLE 75 evo system. This achieves thermal insulation of Uf = 1.6 - 1.8 W/(m2K) Your below 0.8 W/(m2K). In terms of insulation, this aluminum profile is one of the most innovative solutions in the industry.

RESULTS

Thanks to WICONA's experience and know-how in difficult projects regarding the implementation of customized systems that offer optimum efficiency, perfect durability and optimal performance, the technical managers of the renovation project of the wellness center of the Alpenroyal hotel were immediately convinced.
