From November 1 to 4, the time had finally come: after five years, the Brabanthallen in 's-Hertogenbosch were once again the setting for HoutPro+, the trade fair for the woodworking industry. For many exhibitors, the four-day event was a warm reunion with clients and other relations. At the same time, the fair was an excellent opportunity to present all the innovations of recent years to a large professional audience, which happened in abundance. You can read all about it in this review.

SIEGENIA has a reputation to uphold with the development of new window, door and comfort systems. At HoutPro+ this was underlined, among other things, with the presentation of the SIEGENIA COMFORT UNIT, equipped with the ECO PASS sill.
"This lift-slide system has been tested to 600 Pa and thus offers optimum insulation and wind and water tightness. With energy savings in mind, this is becoming increasingly important," says technical coordinator Marten van Dijk. "Where the production of sliding doors is normally a complex time-consuming job, the SIEGENIA COMFORT UNIT offers a hassle-free solution that simplifies the production process considerably. In fact, this lift-slide system comes with pre-assembled lower sill. From runner and guide rail to handle and closing rod: everything is cut to size and ready to install as far as possible. This makes the assembly of lift-slide elements more efficient than ever before. This not only saves time, but also reduces assembly risks."

Thoughtful design
The SIEGENIA COMFORT UNIT is also distinctive in aesthetic terms, Van Dijk explains. "The well-thought-out design of only 5mm sill height ensures seamless glazing all the way to the sill. And thanks to the flush frame profile, the leak-proof sill closes barrier-free inside and outside. The ideal solution for window frames made of plastic, aluminum and wood!"

It was pleasantly busy at Innodeen's exhibition booth. So the manufacturer of innovative and sustainable sill systems had no complaints about lack of attention. "For us, HoutPro+ is unprecedentedly important because this is where we meet our customers and prospects. Because we are a technically oriented company, we have many technical discussions during those trade fair days. With processors, but also with students," says technical sales engineer Wim Gotink. Many trade visitors wanted to know the ins and outs of the various new products on display. Including the DJP profile.

Permanent paint adhesion
Gotink explains the main advantages of the innovative DJP profile: "Applying this glazing and tilt-and-turn profile results in a significant improvement in the Uf value of the window frame. Whereas standard aluminum profiles act as a thermal bridge, the DURODEEN material used in this profile actually has an insulating effect. This allows a reduction of up to 0.4 W/m²K possible on the Uf value of the underseal."
According to him, however, this is not the end of the story: "The DJP profile can also be painted over well, it can be glued together and ensures permanent paint adhesion. All in all, this means that this profile significantly increases the lifespan of wooden window frames."

At the MACO booth, Harold Wisselink, Sales Director Benelux, visibly enjoys the contact with visitors. "After five years here at the HoutPro+ it is a warm reunion with our customers," he says. And there is also a lot to discuss.
"For example, several years ago we expanded our range of multi-point locks and have now become the market leader in new construction with pivot hardware. But at this trade fair we are especially launching our new electronic door locking system INSTINCT. This motor lock heralds a new era in access technology, as the individual components can be positioned flexibly in the door. Together they form a complete electronic multi-point locking system that makes the locking cylinder redundant and enables new design freedom. This allows virtually any shape for a door, whether it is 5- or 7-angle."

Burglary-resistant MULIT POWER hardware.
Wisselink's motto is: "Think global, act local. The latter translates particularly into local, market-specific solutions. "A good example of this is MULTI POWER, with which our company has taken a decisive step for a new generation of window hardware. This enables burglar resistance up to SKG***," says Wisselink, according to whom MACO has become especially large in the renovation and new construction market. "In this we distinguish ourselves by supplying good products and good service and also by good coordination in the chain."

Window Technology - producer of sills, glass and stop profiles as well as sealing profiles for wooden and plastic window frames - used HoutPro+ primarily to draw attention to their new VTD sills: the VTD Excellent hybrid sill and the VTD Prestige full sill. "The uniqueness of these two lower sills is that they are made entirely of fiberglass," says sales manager Herben Heino. "The advantage of fiberglass is that it has an excellent insulation value. In addition, the construction of these new sills provides even greater flexibility in detailing."

Easy Parts
Window Technology stands for simplicity and ease of use. This translates, among other things, into the range of Easy Click stop and glass profiles that guarantee easy assembly in the carpentry shop. "And with Easy Parts, we offer a range of products that provide protection and simplification when installing window frames," says Heino. "All of them smart tools that excel in problem solving, easy installation and reduction of failure costs."
Also attracting much attention was an innovative lift-slide sill. "What makes it special is that it can be attached with lock hooks instead of pins," says Dr. K. K., the company's CEO.

Lecot is one of the main suppliers of window, door and furniture fittings, tools, machinery, safety materials and hardware in the Netherlands and Belgium. At HoutPro+, the company especially showed what it has to offer in the field of window and door technology. For four days, the enthusiastic team was on hand to tell visitors all about the latest developments within the joinery industry in terms of logistics, software and product innovations.

Glazing with tape
One of the novelties that could be admired at the fair was the innovative concept of dry glazing. "Traditionally, glazing is done with a sealant edge. But with this new dry glazing concept, a tape is applied, which makes sealant unnecessary," clarified manager Johan Rombouts of Lecot Nederland. Seeing is believing. Therefore, at HoutPro+, a practical demonstration of the dry glazing concept was also regularly given, which was highly appreciated by the trade audience present. According to Rombouts, this type of product innovation also fits seamlessly with Lecot's business philosophy. "After all, we are convinced that sound assembly is essential to achieve a high-quality end product."

On day two of the HoutPro+, Reinoud van der Kroon, Woelm's Country Manager Benelux and France, looks pleased.
"A very focused audience comes to this fair," he says. "Visitors are really interested." The latter is hardly surprising, since Woelm's booth has a lot to offer. Including HELM's sliding door systems for wooden and glass doors. Van der Kroon shows a sliding door built into a wall niche, equipped with a Smarttip that can be used as an end damper and push to open. "This is integrated invisibly on the track. When closing, it gently slows the sliding door, slowly pulling it to its final position and reliably holding it in place. A slight pressure on the end allows the door to easily come out of the wall niche."

KWS collection expanded
The KWS door handles program also takes pride of place at the booth. "This range was already very diverse, but is now even more extensive because we recently acquired Belgium-based Q-Design, manufacturer of stainless steel door handles (AISI 316), among other products," Van der Kroon explains. "As a result, the KWS handles are more than ever perfectly matched to the HELM sliding door hardware and provide a harmonious overall impression."

In the design, calculation and production of window frames, software has become indispensable. Someone who can tell you all about it is Hans Storms, branch manager of the window frame industry at Matrix Software. At HoutPro+ the company was prominently present with a large exhibition stand. This did not miss the mark, because visitors were very interested in Matrix Webkozijn, a full-service cloud solution for composing, calculating, quoting, ordering and producing window frames.

Time Saving
"With Matrix Webkozijn you can put together complete window frames that can also be produced immediately," says Hans Storms. "Another big advantage of this cloud solution is that data only has to be entered once. This allows for significant savings in, for example, calculation time and work preparation. This is our response to the growing shortage of professionals in our sector. Once ordered, the data is shared directly from the cloud with the plastic frame factory or joinery."
According to the industry manager, there is now a lot of interest in Matrix Webkozijn from the frame industry. "Due to the great success in the plastic frame industry, we will therefore soon launch a Matrix Webkozijn for the wooden frame industry."

FUHR Benelux is a total supplier in the field of multi-point locks. At HoutPro+, the company presented its wide range of products, with a special focus on a new generation of locks: the autosafe 835 DuoSecure series. "This new series of multi-point locks is based on the proven concept of the autosafe product series with automatic locking," says commercial-technical consultant Michiel Hofman. "Thanks to the combination of type 10 bolts and swivel hooks, the autosafe 835 guarantees optimum safety when closing the door. Using the new DuoSecure technology, the door is automatically and reliably locked at multiple points. Thanks to this design, the automatic multi-point locks are suitable for burglary protection to EN 1627 up to RC 4."

Smart Connect
"Because the door locks automatically every time, you can be confident that the door is always securely locked, even without post-locking," Hofman continues his explanation. "Another advantage is that you can always retrofit a motor to comfortably motorize the door via an access control system or an intercom system. Moreover, the 835 series can be coupled with all of FUHR's Smart Connect systems. It is a complete and round program, within which we also offer the option of fitting single and double anti-panic doors in accordance with standards EN179 and EN1125. This makes us unique in the market."

Belgian manufacturer Xinnix Door Systems specializes in construction elements to finish doors flush with a wall. "This results in seamless invisible doors that form a visual unit with the wall," says owner Chris Vermeulen.
"To achieve frameless doors, an aluminum frame mounted in the wall is used. The included hardware includes 3D independently adjustable hinges and a Xinnix magnetic lock. More than 30 different locking methods are possible. The system can be used for swing doors up to 3500 mm in height. These door systems fit perfectly with the trend of sleek and minimalist interiors."

X8 series
One of the novelties that Xinnix presented at HoutPro+ was the X8 series: a door frame where you can let the cladding of the wall continue on the door panel. "This creates a visually sleek effect," says Vermeulen.
"The possible infills once again match our minimalist door systems. With our invisible doors, in short, it is possible to create a timeless living or working space, where the door forms an aesthetically pleasing unit with the wall."

Since 1969, Holonite has been a name in the field of composite stone. As a producer and distributor of, among other things, lower sills for exterior window frames, the company has acquired a leading position within the construction and frame industry. During HoutPro+, Holonite showed its latest innovations in terms of sill systems for the frame industry. In particular, the Trimax sill made of fiber-reinforced composite attracted a lot of attention.
Frame industry manager Kees Verweel explained it to anyone who wanted to know. Because, according to him, the Trimax sill offers many advantages: "Normally, a sill is not fitted until final assembly. But the Trimax is suitable for locking and can therefore already be pressed in at the beginning. This makes dowels and screws unnecessary; mounting with wooden dowels is sufficient. Even cavity laths can already be mounted during pre-assembly."

Protective film
Another advantage of Holonite's innovative sill is that frames including sills are included in their entirety in the spraying process. "During spraying, the sill is protected by means of a special foil. By the way, this is easy to remove," says Verweel. "There is no foil between the wooden style and the sill's neutral. And if necessary, the foil can also serve as additional protection during the construction phase."

The wood and joinery industry is known to be rather conservative. The mission of director Bert van Lieshout of S2 Hang- en Sluitwerk (formerly Themans Hang- en Sluitwerk) is to get the industry to look at doors and frames in a different way. "Our role is not only limited to supplying hardware, but we also want to inspire the joinery industry to look beyond what they are used to. Because both for us as a manufacturer and also for our customers, it is important to keep innovating continuously," he clarifies.

Adjustable hinge
There's no shortage of innovations at the S2 Building and Hardware booth. For example, account manager Jeffrey Luttenberg proudly demonstrates an adjustable hinge. "That offers a particular solution for double doors where there is often a shrinking/swelling problem. You can easily solve that with this adjustable hinge. Another innovation, for example, is our new contra bowl where the locking plate has a wide opening for a double door that you can place in the middle of the lower or upper lintel. Thanks to that extra-wide opening, problems with shrinking or swelling are also taken care of here," he concludes.

Hinge manufacturer Breuer & Schmitz stands for "Deutsche Gründlichkeit. "We are a relatively small company and therefore always run just a step faster than the rest. With us, the customer is still king," says Gijs-Bert Drost, account manager for the southern Netherlands and Belgium. "We specialize mainly in small series and customization, such as small series of powder-coated steel hinges. We are also the only manufacturer whose slide bearing hinges have been tested for fire resistance."

Cradle-to-cradle
To respond to the increasing interest in large wooden garage doors on the Dutch market, Breuer & Schmitz developed a special garage door hinge. "When garage doors become so heavy, an ordinary hinge can no longer cope," Drost clarifies. "That's why we created this extra sturdy hinge that we offer in various versions: galvanized, stainless steel and powder coated in black. And this new product is catching on very well!"
Breuer & Schmitz is also leading the way in the environmental field. "We already hold the bronze certificate for cradle-to-cradle and in the meantime we are also on our way to silver," concludes a proud Drost.

As with all other exhibitors, it had been five years since Ekosite Products last exhibited at HoutPro+.
"This fair was therefore an excellent opportunity to showcase the novelties we have developed in recent years," says managing director Hans Kroon. "For example, we have come up with glass and pivot valleys to replace aluminum that we install in the factory on our NEO sills. In this way a thermal bridge is prevented and thus the insulation value of the sill and thus of the entire frame improves."

Cooperation with Henderson Netherlands
In addition to an excellent insulation value, NEO sills have a coefficient of expansion that is virtually zero. "These are ideal properties for a sill for a folding wall, for example. For that reason, we joined forces with Henderson Netherlands, a specialist in sliding and folding door fittings. That resulted in a NEO sill that is suitable for a Henderson folding wall fitting."
One of Ekosiet Products' other many novelties is a 223 mm lift-slide sill. Says Kroon, "On this, thick doors up to 92 mm for triple glass can be used or, for example, doors of 67 mm, but for schedule C or E."

What does a manufacturer of plastic window frames have to do at a trade fair for the woodworking industry? A lot, if it were up to Gealan.
"We hear more and more from wood manufacturers that they are looking for a good solution for the lift-slide door," says Bas van den Eerenbeemt of Gealan. "However, with a wooden lift-and-slide door it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet the required insulation values and BENG standards. But with our plastic sliding doors we can achieve a U-value of no less than 1.15 with double glazing. In combination with triple glazing, even a U-value of 0.77 is possible and we can move toward BENG 3 and Passive House. Moreover, the façade has been tested at 600 Pa, which guarantees optimal wind and water tightness."

Perfect prefabricated solution
"Our main message at this fair to the timber industry is therefore: the sliding door you're looking for, it's already there!" continued Van den Eerenbeemt. "It's a perfect prefabricated solution for sliding doors, to be installed at the same time as concept 3 frames in a new-build home. Fast, efficient and smart! In short, with our plastic sliding door, the frame industry is ready for the future of sustainable building."

For more than thirty years, Viva Machines has offered a complete range of aluminum, plastic and woodworking machines. At HoutPro+, the Izegem, Belgium-based company surprised with a real world first: the Easynest Evolution, a unique nesting machine with beam tables.
"This is the first time we are presenting this machine to the outside world," says a visibly proud Kevin Six, co-owner of Viva Machines. According to him, the Easynest Evolution is the most flexible machine currently available on the market. "Normally, a nesting machine has certain limitations. But with this machine, for example, you can also place an interior door or a cabinet component on the cups. This makes you very flexible in your operations."

Edge gluer
Viva Machines is also the official distributor for the Benelux of CEHISA industrial edgebanders. A sample of this machine was also on display at HoutPro+. Kevin Six: "With more than a thousand machines installed worldwide, this brand has earned its stripes in the market. These edge gluers are characterized by their high degree of finishing, reliability and extremely high ease of use."
