Each contractor has its own approach: traditional construction, wood frame construction, precast, complete pre-finished units, .... Moreover, nearly zero energy neutral (BEN), zero-to-the-meter (NOM) and also passive house projects are taking the crown today. Architects, project agencies, construction consultancies, housing corporations, contractors, dealers and investors - all can call on the know-how of Gerdes Fenster und Türen to work out a suitable solution for frames, windows, doors or sliding doors together. The Lengerich-based frame manufacturer can fall back on many years of experience in Germany and the Netherlands.
What began in 1949 as a painting and glass company has today become a renowned manufacturer of Schüco frames, windows, doors and sliding doors for projects in Germany as well as the Netherlands.
"In the beginning we were rather hesitant, because the Dutch have a very distinctive way of building. Nevertheless, we did not shy away from the challenge," says sales and marketing manager Benelux Anthonius Gabeler.
"We first produced the 'Dutch' systems manually, but then invested in new custom machines and saw blades. Since 2017, we even have a branch in Oldenzaal specifically for work preparation and a small equipment warehouse. Today, more than 60% of orders come from the country, where we are popularly called 'Gerdes Kozijnen'."
Whether it is the replacement of wooden window frames or plastic systems with poor insulation values in renovations or the integration of frames, windows, doors or sliding doors in new construction or additions, the specialists at Gerdes always think along with the construction team.
"We can also use our experience and expertise from German projects in the Netherlands. For example, triple glazing has been used in Germany for 25 years, while in the Netherlands it is only now breaking through completely. Moreover, we can participate with our systems in any project: renovation or new construction, traditional, BEN or NOM, even passive house," Gabeler points out.
"We also continue to invest heavily in modernizing and optimizing our production and expanding our range. For example, in the future we also want to supply Schüco aluminum systems, which will allow us to respond even more flexibly to market demands. And, of course, we guarantee our customers the highest quality. This is confirmed time and again with VKG Keurmerk and SKG-IKOB/KOMO certificates."
The list of references is very extensive. For example, an investor contacted the German window manufacturer to develop customized window systems for a renovation project with prefabricated elements, which are mounted in front of the existing walls, creating rather thick cavities. The plastic systems are increasingly being integrated into timber frame construction, mainly because of their ease of maintenance and resistance to weathering, which is nevertheless considerably better than wooden window frames.
"For an apartment building in Berlin, a contractor integrated our windows into residential units, which are prefabricated in the workshop and assembled as blocks on the construction site. Also in the Netherlands, a company is using windows and doors from our Schüco range to create modular, fully finished and furnished units for temporary school or office buildings, for example," adds the sales and marketing manager.
"For projects where many systems have to be delivered according to a strict schedule and just-in-time, as for example at Zorgcentrum Uitzicht in Vlaardingen, our large stock of profiles and automated machinery are strong assets. And for a residential project in Ede, our experience and expertise were decisive. After all, we supported the architect and project manager with advice on insulation values and airtightness with regard to the window frames and their assembly."
Let it be clear: whatever the challenge at Gerdes Fenster und Türen: they tackle every project there with enthusiasm.
