A door that doesn't close properly: it seems like a minor problem, but in practice it causes a lot of frustration. The door rattles, jams or lets in drafts. Residents file complaints and mechanics spend a lot of time on the problem. BUVA therefore developed a smart and durable solution: the SP840 adjustable locking plate. A small product, with great effect.
At BUVA, we develop our products ourselves, with our own R&D department that works closely with the market. This creates solutions that really add something in practice. “We want to deliver added value by developing products that actually benefit our clients,” says Detmer Deddens, team leader of Product Management at BUVA. “We don't think in separate parts, but in solutions that contribute to better and smarter building. The adjustable locking plate SP840 is a good example of this: created from a customer demand, worked out into a practical and sustainable product.”
According to Detmer, innovation doesn't always have to be big to have a big effect. “The SP840 solves a recognizable problem: doors that close too tightly or too loosely. Thanks to the adjustable adjuster - the latch bolt tray - the striker plate can be precisely adjusted to the project lock. Thus, the door always closes perfectly, even if, at first glance, the frame and the door do not appear to match during installation, or if the wood works due to temperature differences.” The SP840 is suitable for wooden interior doors, applicable in both new construction and renovation, and fits all BUVA project locks from the 6000, 6500 and 8100 series. Thanks to its universal design, the adjustable strike plate can be used with deadbolt locks, locks with latch locks, latch and deadbolt locks and cabinet locks.
The idea for the adjustable locking plate came about in collaboration with Victoria Construction, a regular client of BUVA. Their mechanics noticed that standard locking plates did not always fit properly, especially in renovation projects.
“We saw in practice that there was a need for an adjustable locking plate that is universally applicable and also looks neat,” says Pascal Karssing, team leader of execution and production at Victoria Construction. “BUVA took that idea further, worked it out in 3D models and prototypes, and actively involved us in the development. That's exactly what I appreciate about BUVA: they listen to what's going on in the market and translate that into a practical solution.”
The benefits of the SP840 are immediately noticeable on the construction site as well as in maintenance:
Because the striker plate can be adjusted, even a janitor or technical employee can quickly adjust a door. This avoids unnecessary costs and waiting times.
The development of the SP840 shows where Building Smart Together stands for: listening to the market, sharing knowledge and working with partners to develop smart, effective solutions. Detmer aptly sums it up “The SP840 was born out of a practical demand, but developed with an eye for quality, ease of assembly and durability. This is how we build better solutions for tomorrow's construction together with our customers.”
The SP840 adjustable locking plate can be ordered now and will be available from stock at BUVA from mid-November ’25.
