The Stadstuin in The Hague: smartly built with prefabricated assembled window frames!

The Stadstuin was developed and realized by Stebru of Nieuwerkerk a/d IJssel in close cooperation with the municipality of The Hague, care organization Saffier, investor Syntrus Achmea and housing corporation Arcade. The project involves a total of three buildings containing 119 care homes for Syntrus Achmea's Achmea Dutch Health Care Property Fund, which care organization Saffier will rent. De Stadstuin also includes two buildings with 64 social rental apartments for Arcade. The design is by Architecten van Mourik. The project focuses on living together and meeting each other: the apartment buildings are connected by an inner garden where residents, staff and visitors can meet. The window frames used in this project come from Gealan. Bas van den Eerenbeemt, system advisor at Gealan, talks about it.

Wijnsma Prefab Frame 

"Smart work was done on this project, by providing all Gealan window frames - executed in the S9000 NL base profile - with set frames and HSB walls at Wijnsma Frames' factory. The facade elements were fitted with glass and all necessary foils. These prefabricated façade elements were delivered to the building site ready for use. The frames connected together in a semi-circular arrangement were also delivered to the construction site in this way," Bas explains. "This worked quickly, efficiently and prevented failure costs by controlling the entire process from A to Z."

Specially developed for the Netherlands

Gealan S9000 NL has been specially developed for the Dutch market. The window frame is equipped with a 3-seal system throughout. "This type of window frame meets all the visual criteria for the Netherlands," continued Bas. "Through the 3-seal system and through the innovative flexible middle seal, Gealan achieves the best performance and values in terms of thermal insulation and wind and water tightness. The system S 9000 NL is suitable for frames, doors and lift-and-slide doors at the highest level. The Base version used at De Stadstuin has a built-in depth of 120 mm, is slim and has a depth effect due to the 15˚ slant."

At The City Garden, a two-color version was chosen. "The outside is finished in PMMA acrylcolor 7024, the inside in white. The color system has proven its quality for 40 years. In colorfastness, appearance and durability, acrylcolor provides the homes in The Hague with lasting color," Bas concludes.
