Innovative textile facade protects building from climatic conditions
FACID has since been applied to a number of projects, for example Schüco's new parking garage, Brandenburg Airport in Berlin and event center Luxexpo in Luxembourg.

Innovative textile facade protects building from climatic conditions

In many cases, the facade is the building's calling card. In our contemporary architecture, large glass panes are often chosen to provide comfort and light. In order to protect the building from climatic conditions, aluminum window and door manufacturer Schüco introduced a very innovative solution, the FACID textile façade. In addition, this façade protection also functions as a flexible design element, allowing the building to easily be given a different look thanks to digital prints or coloring.

Schüco windows, doors and curtain walls are used worldwide in homes, apartments, offices and public buildings. To this end, more than 12,000 facade manufacturers, architects, contractors and investors work with the manufacturer of aluminum windows and doors. The Schüco Group, headquartered in Bielefeld, Germany, remains continuously committed to innovation, cutting-edge technology and service orientation. For example, the market leader introduced a very special innovation in early 2020: the FACID textile façade.

Unlimited design freedom

When renovating or building new buildings, architects and building owners look for solutions to shield the building from climatic influences. FACID is an ideal facade protection with endless design possibilities. It preserves the view from inside to outside while providing optimum protection from sun and rain. This textile facade also contributes to making buildings energy efficient. FACID functions as sun and wind protection and limits the heating and cooling of the façade. Depending on the functional requirements, the textile can be made of different materials, including PVC and fiberglass. To meet ventilation requirements for parking garages, for example, mesh size and material thickness can be adapted.

Façade as a communication tool

As we are used to from Schüco, this innovation also has an added bonus. After all, it is not just a simple textile façade, but at the same time a flexible design element. The fabric is available in different colors and can be digitally printed, even with 3D shapes, so that the façade can become a real communication tool. Both the design and the communication applied to it can be changed quickly and flexibly, without affecting the building itself. FACID can therefore be adapted very efficiently to changed circumstances or requirements. In today's time, where everything revolves around circularity, this contributes positively to the life cycle of the building. Moreover, the elements are highly recyclable, prefabricated and easy to install.

In practice

FACID has since been integrated into a number of national and international construction projects. For example, the new parking garage at Schüco's own headquarters in Bielefeld is fully equipped with this textile facade, and at Brandenburg Airport in Berlin, a total of 20,000 m² of facade was clad with FACID. The first projects have also been completed in Belgium and Luxembourg. Among others, the company Vervaeke, which over the years has built up extensive experience and know-how in the field of production and assembly of custom technical textiles, has already provided some great references. For example, FACID cladding shines at the Luxexpo event center in Luxembourg City.
