'Infinitely beautiful metal' reads the cover of the book Façades 2023. The fifteenth edition of the annual publication of the VMRG, the trade association for metal facade construction, has been published. 'Beautiful' refers to the beautiful facades of recently completed buildings featured in the book. 'Infinite' stands for the metal. After their long life, the facade materials aluminum and steel for 100% can be infinitely recycled. This results in enormous energy savings and the material retains its quality. Thus, metal remains infinitely beautiful.
Frederik Vermeesch, creative director at Rijnboutt, was allowed to receive the very first copy of the book from Henk Zoontjens, director at the VMRG. Quartz, one of the two residential buildings of Q Residences in Amsterdam Buitenveldert, can be admired on the cover of Façades 2023. Rijnboutt fulfilled the role of co-architect in the realization of this prestigious project.
This was done in collaboration with the American architectural firm Studio Gang, which is responsible for the design.
Vermeesch: "We share the high level of ambition of Kroonenberg Group, the client of this project. The high quality is reflected both in the technical detailing and execution and in the high-quality materials and products used."
Façades 2023 consists of 224 pages of diverse façade construction projects in which VMRG companies have been involved. The book is divided into non-residential construction, residential construction, renovation and transformation, and solar projects. Each project indicates whether the project was realized under the VMRG Quality Mark. All companies with this quality mark deliver guaranteed quality in the field of facades. They are regularly inspected for this, both in the factory and on the building site. The European tendering directives offer scope to prescribe the VMRG Quality Mark in specifications. Every company with the VMRG Quality Mark receives an annual VMRG Quality Mark certificate, after the inspections have been positive, so that a client is assured that the company meets the high standard of the VMRG Quality Requirements and Recommendations.
Between the different categories of projects, the book includes a number of articles. In these, 'infinitely beautiful metal' takes center stage. In an interview, for example, VMRG director Henk Zoontjens sees 'freedom of form' as the main advantage of metal. Aluminum is also put in the spotlight in a special way and it is explained how the plans for a Circular Facade Economy, an initiative of the VMRG, can be rolled out.
The book can also be viewed online. The online version contains links for each project to more information about the project and about the company that was involved in that project. The VMRG website offers a sign-up option on the home page for the Inspiration Newsletter to stay informed about interesting projects each month. ■
