First agreement on deployment of drones in city

Aeroscan, one of the three partners in the FaSA project, may be the first company in the Netherlands to conduct construction and real estate inspections with drones in urban areas. In cooperation with the Inspectorate for the Environment and Transport, a working method has been agreed upon to start testing this application in practice. Until recently, performing inspections with drones in urban areas was impossible because of strict regulations regarding the use of drones.

FaSa stands for "Façade Service Application. The VMRG, together with Aeroscan and OCTO, is initiating the development of this application. Together with 39 partners, in an EU-subsidized project, they are developing a platform that innovates the physical real estate market by using digital means such as sensors, drones and artificial intelligence. The Façade Service Application can provide continuous insight into the technical and aesthetic performance of facades of residential and commercial buildings in an objective manner.

Digitizing
To enable more objective, accurate and widespread inspections of construction and real estate, work is underway on a solution where drones are used to digitize facades and roofs. Analysis of the property can then be performed digitally, also using new techniques such as image recognition and artificial intelligence.

Drone Technology
A modus operandi has now been established in which extensive prior research has been conducted into safety, privacy and the impact of drone technology on the environment. Based on this scenario, several test environments will be created in which residents and property owners are involved in flight operations. This unique project is part of a development in the European Union in which specific applications of drone technology and its added value to society are being researched. The research results from practice will form input for the creation of uniform regulations within Europe regarding the use of drones.

The activities of the FaSA project are carried out within the municipality of The Hague. This project is partly due to support from Kansen voor West II, ERDF grant.
