Glass, metal and silicone. These are three building elements with which creative architects can design extraordinary structures: from breathtaking "skywalks" over walkable glass floors and stairs to glass balustrades, railings, partitions and corner structures made of glass.
With the new OTTOCOLL® S 645 adhesive from Otto-Chemie, such constructions can be realized flawlessly, safely and economically; that is what the technical approval ETAG 002 stands for.
Modern sealants and adhesives are today an essential component in the production and assembly of building elements. Not only must they seal and bond excellently, but at the same time they must withstand physical and chemical stresses, must not impair the materials' properties and must meet legal requirements. The adhesion of a wide variety of materials is always a real challenge. The Hermann Otto GmbH, based in Fridolfing, is one of the leading European manufacturers of high-quality sealants and adhesives for industry, construction and trade.
These products are developed in the in-house laboratory and marketed under the brand names OTTOSEAL® for sealants, OTTOCOLL® for adhesives and NOVASIL® for industrial products. Furthermore, the company provides customized solutions for specific applications. New products are developed in close cooperation with customers. For the distribution of products, Otto-Chemie has its own field sales staff in Germany, Austria, England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg and a network of independent partners in many other countries in and outside Europe.
Glass as a raw material for stairs and floors, partitions, balustrades or railings provides transparency, as well as energy savings, because it allows light to pass through, while other raw materials prevent it. The solid and durable bonding of such glass building elements requires careful preparation and a high-quality adhesive such as OTTOCOLL® S 645, the new 2-component adhesive and sealant from Otto-Chemie for special constructions made of glass and metal.
The static characteristics of this adhesive were determined by an independent testing laboratory in accordance with ETAG 002. This product is suitable for stress-compensating and weather-resistant bonding and sealing of various materials, especially glass and metal. It is also used for bonding, which requires building authority approval, as well as for static bonding of glass, metal and other materials in structural glass facades.
To ensure optimum adhesion, the bonding surfaces must be clean, grease-free and dry. Contaminants such as solvents, preservatives, fats, oils, dust, water, residues of adhesives and sealants and other substances must be removed beforehand. This non-corrosive adhesive is characterized by high notch and tear resistance, making it resistant to high mechanical loads. Professional customers are impressed by the excellent stability of the adhesion and fast curing, even with thick layers, allowing faster processing of the bonded elements. The very good resistance to weathering, aging and UV rays makes this product ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications.
