Cradle to Cradle certification for AGC's glass products extended until 2021

Cradle to Cradle sustainability certification has been awarded for many of AGC Glass Europe's product lines, including float glass and magnetron-coated glass, as well as decorative glass and laminated safety glass. Certification for the Thermobel, iplus and ipasol brands has now been extended for another two years, and newcomer Thermobel Scena has also been added to the list of certified products.

Although AGC's insulating glass came out at certificate bronze, these products were awarded certificate silver for sustainable water management and certificate gold for social aspects. The products also scored better on recycling of materials, giving some products silver status and others gold status.

Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certification for insulating glass involves many more parties than for other glass products. For example, not only is the glass itself certified, but all components needed to assemble the glass into double or triple glazing, such as interlayers and sealants, etc., must meet material safety criteria. The result is a complex certification process that looks at dozens of suppliers and all production sites involved in manufacturing. The recertification of AGC's comprehensive portfolio of insulating glass and coatings is further evidence of the manufacturer's commitment to the environment and sustainability.

AGC is the only European glass manufacturer with C2C certification
The Cradle to Cradle certification system assesses the sustainability aspects of a product throughout its life cycle. To be certified, a product must meet high requirements in five categories related to health and environmental friendliness: safe and healthy use of materials, reuse of materials, renewable energy, sustainable water management and social aspects. AGC is the first glass manufacturer in the world to be awarded Cradle-to-Cradle certification for such a comprehensive portfolio of glass products. As such, AGC offers the most comprehensive portfolio of C2C-certified glass products with Bronze, Silver and Gold* status.
