Those who work together today are building the facades of tomorrow
On June 9, the 2026 Circular Facade Economy Symposium took place. Nearly 300 participants from the facade industry, clients, architects, research institutions, and trade associations gathered to share the latest circular developments in facade life cycles.
The symposium underscored the need for the facade industry to prepare for a changing global market, Dutch and European policies, the need for more efficient use of materials, and future-proof real estate. All under the motto ‘Those who collaborate today will build the facades of tomorrow.’.

With the launch of the new NTA 8233: Circular Facades (window frames, windows, doors, and curtain walls), NEN, together with the working group, produced the Dutch Technical Agreement. This document not only helps determine performance standards, but also serves as a source of knowledge that points the way toward circular solutions. A festive celebration was held to mark the fact that all these efforts had led to the publication of this publicly available NTA within a year. .

Various experts addressed current topics such as extending product lifespans, reuse, recycling, circular design, packaging reduction, and digitization. What else is possible? And what inspiration can we draw from industry leaders? The new website officially launched on June 9. This gives you access to information about these topics, circular economies, projects, and more. For example, visit the knowledge base at circulairegeveleconomie.nl.
Jan van Beuningen (Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations), John Kersemakers (Vereniging Eigen Huis), Friso van der Steen (Central Government Real Estate Agency) and Nick Boersma (Circulair Friesland) discussed the responsibilities and opportunities for clients to effectively ensure circularity in projects. This led to valuable insights.
The 2026 Circular Façade Economy Symposium thus marked not only an opportunity to share knowledge, but above all a collective step toward a strong, innovative, and circular façade supply chain.
