BUVA transformed in recent years from a wholesaler for hardware to a total supplier and partner of the construction industry under the name BUVA homecare systems. The company produces and supplies complete solutions for the construction industry. Recently, BUVA also acquired Holonite, manufacturer of composite sills. "Sills continue to be a Dutch business," he says.
The company started its own product development some fifty years ago. Managing Director Rien Wisse: "We now supply everything made to measure: from aluminum profiles and hardware to sills. The focus here is on our own label. For the construction industry, we supply complete solutions with an extra long guarantee when purchasing the entire concept."
And BUVA goes one step further with its homecare systems toward housing corporations and contractors. "When the complete package of facade, ventilation and heating is coordinated, we guarantee wind and water tightness and the best indoor climate."
The plastics sector is also becoming increasingly important to BUVA. The company supplies a lot of hardware, ventilation grilles and sills to the plastic frame industry. The acquisition of Holonite is therefore a good fit. BUVA was already number one in sills in the Netherlands and has now added number two. Wisse: "BUVA and Holonite are both strong brand names and together we are even stronger. The reactions from the market are also very positive."
Sills still remain primarily a Dutch matter, according to the director. "We do see that interest in this is also growing at the European level. Other countries also have to meet stricter energy requirements. So this trend is bound to continue."
Now in many other countries they still use a kind of brush under the door, so you don't have an obstacle, like a sill. But energy-wise, that is not the solution. There are also differences in other areas. Wisse: "In the Netherlands and also Scandinavia we still build a lot with wood, although plastic is on the rise. In the rest of Europe, aluminum and plastic are mainly used."
Construction has changed significantly in recent years: there is a shift toward industry. BUVA is also responding to this. "There is more and more prefabricated production for the construction industry. Prefabricated elements, fitted with frames, including glass and hardware, are delivered all the way to the construction site." The entire chain works together for this purpose.
"We deliver to the frame factory, which assembles it and shifts its complete product to an element builder. That provides it with stone strips or other cladding. This trend arose partly because of the housing shortage. More construction is needed, but the permitting system is slow and there is a labor shortage."
BUVA is happy to contribute to solving the housing shortage: as a business chain partner, the company is committed to optimizing products and processes for its clients. Wisse: "We accelerate the building process by delivering a total package of coherent building products and our far-reaching digitalization. This enables us to achieve a more efficient construction process. Also, together with BlueLab, we bring together various parties in the construction sector to stimulate innovation. With our strategic focus on all market developments, we play an essential role for the building industry in the Netherlands."
