A single or double door that jams or no longer closes properly is a common problem. S2 in Deventer, a specialist in hardware, came up with an innovative solution for this in the form of an adjustable hinge. "With this product, the wood and
carpentry industry minimize service costs," says account manager Jeffrey Luttenberg.
It's a well-known problem with wooden doors: heat or moisture cause them to shrink or swell, causing the closing seam between the door and the frame to expand or contract.
"To fix this problem, complicated and time-consuming solutions are often chosen, such as planing and milling the door," Jeffrey knows. "Also, shims are often installed or removed when the seasons change. This also often requires removing the door from the frame. All time-consuming solutions that also do not give lasting results."
"In short, because of all these measures, you spend a lot of time as a supplier or mechanic, which quickly increases the service costs for the processor," Jeffrey continued. "However, thanks to the adjustable S2 OptiMaxx hinge we developed, the consumer can easily solve the problem with the working door himself. In fact, adjusting the hinge is very easy for the end user. An additional advantage is that the door can simply remain hanging. This not only saves you a lot of time and costs as a supplier or processor, but also ensures satisfied customers."
Jeffrey explains what prompted the development of the OptiMaxx hinge. "From the joinery industry, we were often asked if we could supply an extended latch bolt, or a filler strip to place behind the contra espagnolette; both of which are meant to bring the doors closer together. But the disadvantage of that is that it doesn't look pretty. Because when you apply a longer latch bolt, a large gap is created between your door and frame. Instead, we wanted to offer a full-fledged and optically attractive solution. So that became the OptiMaxx hinge, where the hinge and closing seam fit very neatly thanks to the adjustable hinge."
The innovative hinge was developed with ease of assembly and use in mind for the end user, Jeffrey emphasizes. "In addition, the hinge offers further advantages. For example, it meets the highest SKG®*** quality requirements for burglary prevention and is therefore applicable according to the Police Mark Safe Housing®. The thief pin sits on the frame part for faster installation and therefore also prevents damage to the frame. Together with the adjustability, this makes the S2 OptiMaxx the ultimate hanging hinge."
According to Jeffrey, the carpentry industry has already discovered the benefits of the adjustable hinge in abundance. "We wanted to sell a certain amount of this product this year, but within six months we have already reached our target! This proves the great need there is for such a user-friendly and efficient solution. It is also only logical. Because because the consumer can easily adjust this hinge himself, a mechanic no longer needs to make an extra visit to a customer for this. In fact, service can be provided remotely. All in all, this already makes the OptiMaxx of great value to the carpentry industry."
