The new generation of doors: now also for the rear

In many cases this involves choosing (triple) double glazing, floor insulation, roof insulation and cavity insulation, to prevent heat penetration in summer and heat loss in winter. Manufacturer and supplier Skantrae has been contributing to this since last year with the lightweight NEXT front doors, which are distinguished by a high insulation value and minimal shrinkage and swelling behavior. Last May, Skantrae NEXT rear doors were added to this, with which the entire building envelope can be highly thermally insulated. 

The construction of the Skantrae NEXT rear doors is similar to the front doors, says Marketing & Communications Coordinator Maureen Klaassen. "What makes both doors unique is the carefully composed panel construction. This construction consists of an insulating core with 100% FSC on both sides^® meranti plywood and an aluminum interlayer. The core includes an XPS rigid foam filling that is pressure-resistant, moisture-resistant, lightweight and guarantees a low U-value. This results not only in lower energy consumption, but also in maximum living comfort. The aluminum intermediate layers contribute to a very high form stability of the door, eliminating possible shrinkage and swelling behavior and, as a result, sticking doors. This allows considerable savings in maintenance. Thanks to the use of lightweight materials, Skantrae NEXT exterior doors are also very easy to hang, unlike solid wooden front doors, for example. If required, the doors can be shortened all around by 35 mm."

Normally, front doors and back doors are constructed of stiles and sills, which are held together with a dowel joint and secured with glue or a toognail. Nevertheless, action always occurs between the wooden parts.

"Shrinkage and swelling lurk, which can damage the finish coat," Klaassen said. "This allows moisture to penetrate, which does not help the condition of the door. An undesirable situation, which the NEXT panel construction efficiently overcomes." 

FSC 100% was chosen for the surface finish.^® meranti plywood, she explains. "Because we use whole panels, without stile and sill joints, when properly finished, moisture cannot penetrate the door. Moreover, this ensures a uniform wood grain pattern, which absolutely enhances the aesthetics of the doors!"

Complete exterior door

The NEXT front doors are available in different styles, from timeless to rural. For the rear door, Skantrae has kept the design of the familiar stacking door. "The rear door is available in four models, with a spandrel height of 27, 40, 66 or 92 cm," says Klaassen. 

"In addition, there is a variety of glass to choose from, including HR⁺⁺ glass. The doors are primed in RAL 7038 as standard. Combined with comprehensive hardware packages, we really have thought of everything." 

All NEXT doors are tested according to KOMO guidelines. In addition, a standard 10-year warranty is issued on the front doors and rear doors.

The ultimate in convenience and safety

With Skantrae's hardware packages one chooses convenience and security, thanks to SKG^*** security hardware with a handle- or key-operated three-point latch and deadbolt protection. 

"In most homes, the front door has excellent security," Klaassen knows. "A good development, but in practice it appears that most burglaries are committed through the back. Therefore, it is important to secure the back door as well. Our hardware packages provide for this perfectly. For the back door, we supply high-quality door handles in aluminum, stainless steel, matte chrome, brass or black. In addition, we can provide the desired drilling and milling in our machining center. This ensures seamless integration, optimum security and high-quality appearance."
