The biggest energy leak in a home is window frames and glass. That is where most heat is lost, even if the walls are old and "poorly" insulated. A wall insulates better than the best window frame and insulation glass. There is still much to be gained for the Dutch homeowner.

The Select Windows Energy Frame is constructed from the new generation of Schüco LivIng frame profiles and it is combined with triple glazing. Schüco LivIng is a 120 millimeter deep frame profile. The deeper the profile, the more space for the insulating effect and the thicker the glass that fits inside.

Future-oriented plastic window frame

Because Select Windows Energy Frames for windows, doors and sliding doors insulate so well, they may be called passive frames. This is because the U-window value is lower than 0.9. Insulation and U-value; what about it exactly?

How well a window frame with a particular type of glass insulates can be seen by its U-window value. The U-window value (heat transfer coefficient) has three parts:

  1. Ug-value. This is the U-value of the Glas, how much heat is lost through the glass?
  2. Uf value. This is the U-value of the window profile, how much heat is lost through the Frame/frame?
  3. PSi value (Ψ). This is the insulation value of the spacer of the glass (holding the double or triple glass together).
