Positive outlook in construction sector boosts employment

But how will staff shortages be solved?

The construction industry is always subject to fluctuations, but clear trends have manifested themselves in recent years. While construction output in 2024 experienced a slight decline 3% after years of solid growth, a positive outlook is expected from 2025. This is true not only in the short term, but also in the medium term to 2030. This is driving employment in the sector, bringing both challenges and opportunities. Ergon Jobs, part of Trixxo, is responding to this strategically.

An important trend that will continue to affect the construction industry in the coming years is the aging of the workforce, says Tim van Lierop of Ergon Jobs. "This is reinforced by the shortage of skilled workers, which is already being noticed in (facade) construction as well. The demand for skilled labor exceeds the supply. A trend that will only increase in the coming years." Van Lierop bases his opinion on the recently presented market figures of the VMRG. Which expects a solid recovery in residential new construction in the short term and moderate growth across a broad spectrum in the medium term.

23,000 additional full-time jobs

The VMRG expects the volume of production in construction to rise by 10 billion euros between 2025 and 2029. "That obviously requires additional 'hands,'" Van Lierop rightly states. And he is right, because according to forecasts, construction employment will increase by 23,000 full-time jobs until 2029. That presents challenges. Ergon Jobs, on the other hand, sees it as an opportunity. They have been supplying workers to many factories and assembly halls in window, door and facade technology since 1998. "We proactively address the changing dynamics in the construction industry. The global mobility of workers offers opportunities to fill the shortage of skilled workers. We specialize in recruiting from all corners of Europe. Our payroll counts as many as sixteen different nationalities."

Custom

More than 70 percent of the employees Ergon Jobs has on its payroll are engaged daily in producing, machining and assembling profiles in aluminum or plastic at the plant. "In doing so, we offer customization rather than a 13-in-a-dozen solution," says Van Lierop. "When a new order comes in, the specific needs are always identified first. This ensures that we can use the right professionals with the right skills, which not only relieves the customer, but also achieves better work results. The goal is to best serve the customer not only now, but also in the future. Sustainability, both in the work itself and in the relationship with our customers and employees, is a central theme for us."

As the industry prepares for recovery and growth, Ergon Jobs continues to adapt to changing market conditions and plays an active role in solving staffing shortages. So should you be tight on staffing and need additional capacity in the plant or on the construction site, feel free to call Ergon Jobs. "We are able to switch very quickly," guarantees Van Lierop
