The locks of the future: making the world a little safer again

Combinations with alarm systems are possible

For years MACO has been working on the best locking technology for doors and windows: safe, energy-saving and sustainable. Since last year, project managers Dirk Zwaan and Joost de Kegel have been working together on Protect: a new line of locks with which they want to make doors and windows in the Benelux safer.

Dirk and Joost do the project management together: Dirk from the Netherlands and Joost from Belgium. An important collaboration because the market in both countries is quite different. "The detailing of window frames is different and Belgians, for example, mainly use aluminum and plastic. In the Netherlands, wood has traditionally been the most commonly used material, whereas in Belgium it is more of a luxury product."

By joining forces, they can best shape Protect.

Basic and Premium

Dirk and Joost see Protect locks as the locks of the future. "We have three different types: the Basic-line, Premium-line and Excellent-line. The locking positions are identical for all locks in this series and the milling is also the same. That means you can always go from a Basic lock to a Premium without too much trouble. And that is unique in the market," says Joost.

The Basic line has a standard hook lock: a simple, secure and easy-to-use basic variant in the Protect series. "The pin-hook concept belongs to the Premium line, the door has an additional pin. This line also has light operation and is modular. In other words, it fits any door," Dirk says.

"Very nice for people doing repair work, for example. Because instead of loading your whole car full of parts, you now need much less. With one lock and one type of lock parts, you can repair everything."

Excellent: the progressive lock

"The Excellent line is the best in the series: optimal locking on three-day locks provide light cylinder operation," Dirk said. "Normally you have to lock a lock at three points with the cylinder. You often do that at night before you go to sleep, for example. This lock locks automatically. The result? Doors stay in place better, it's air, draft and moisture tight, and it prevents warping. And it is also incredibly safe. We also supply the locks fully automatic. As far as we are concerned, it really is the lock of the future. It hardly gets more user-friendly!"

What makes these locks unique? "Instead of a hundred different systems, you connect the motor of these locks to the central lock case. This makes it work faster: the lock opens and closes in 0.3 seconds and can be used in combination with alarm and Smart Home systems," Dirk explains. "We provide an optimal system with bluetooth module and our own smart app. This is how we create security as simply as possible."
