Success factors for international facade design

May 7 VMRG talk show at Future Facade

On May 7, the VMRG is hosting a talk show at the new international event Future Facade taking place at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. An event that brings together specialists in facade design and engineering. During the VMRG talk show 'Success factors for international facade design', four very different companies from the facade industry will tell how they successfully contribute to a facade internationally.

All this will be done in an interactive session in which short presentations will alternate with the mutual exchange of experiences and room for questions from the audience. Due to the international nature of Future Facade, the language of the session will be English. Specialists in various facade fields will tell what valuable contribution they make in a design team and how they respond to international laws and regulations. They will show why they are so unique in that they are working internationally, or in this case "building the facade," and what innovations and knowledge they are scoring with. Henk Zoontjens, director of the VMRG, as talk show host, enters into a conversation with four specialists on four diverse topics.

Responding to international façade legislation

Creating space in densely populated areas requires smart solutions that both make the best use of available space and meet stringent requirements, such as noise control. Noise pollution is a major factor in inner-city projects, and it is crucial that façade designs contribute effectively to reducing noise pollution in order to maintain a pleasant and healthy living environment. However, when we compare the different standards used in Europe for façade design, many differences stand out. André Jansen, senior account manager at Solarlux, explains how this company deals with this diversity in laws and regulations.

Energy efficient facades

Energy-saving and even energy-generating facades are the future. In this, there is a wide range of possibilities. Together with partners, Aldowa developed a heat-generating façade. With this technique, buildings can be heated or cooled in an energy-saving way. A model will be on display during Future Facade. Melissa Campos, sustainable innovations engineer at Aldowa, explains how this technique works.

Unique colors and techniques

The facade is a building's calling card. And one would like to give that business card a completely unique look. But how do you create such unique structures, surfaces and colors that create international icons of modern architecture? Remco Baartmans, CEO at Alumet, shows with gems of projects the beauty and endless possibilities of aluminum facades.

Input know how at design table

Using the case study Landspitali Reykjavik, Iceland, Stephen Tanno, Director of Pre-Constructions Services at Schüco International, presents a new way of working with "cross-border" project teams. Bringing in the right know-how at a very early stage of the design process helps to define design requirements accurately, saving time and costs. The case study elaborates on the various technical requirements of this project.

Future Facade

On May 7 and 8, 2025, the first edition of Future Facade will take place in the Netherlands. This trade event brings together architects, engineers, facade builders and suppliers at the Royal Dutch Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. The goal is to explore groundbreaking solutions, innovative insights and best practices. Themes include circularity, new business models and the future of façade technology. International top architects, academics and industry experts will share their knowledge on the latest trends in facade architecture during Future Facade. Subject matter experts can expect inspiring discussions on sustainable design, adaptable facades and innovative materials.
