Harmonious interplay of rectilinear forms: FSB products set haptic accents in the renovated Baja Club Hotel, La Paz

Situated on the seafront promenade of the relaxed port city of La Paz, the restored Baja Club hotel by Mexican entrepreneurial group Grupo Habita combines traditional elements of a colonial-style villa with modern architecture and color and material accents typical of the country. Specially selected handle models from FSB set particular highlights in warm-looking bronze versions and impress with their pared-down design. FSB 1004 series hardware designed by David Chipperfield combines top quality with a special haptic experience for hotel guests.

Fascinated by the question of how to connect the old with the new, architect Max von Werz created with the Baja Club Hotel in La Paz, Mexico, a place that clearly refers to days gone by. Today, the radiantly white colonial-style low-rise is extended by a cascading new four-story building. The old and new buildings merge as two L-shaped buildings and enclose a green courtyard in their midst. A sculptural spiral staircase inside connects the different parts of the hotel. From here, the terraces offer breathtaking views of the sea. While the exterior was designed with minimalist elegance, the interior spaces designed by the French interior designers of the JAUNE agency build bridges to Mexican building tradition and craftsmanship: the hotel's color shades refer to the original details of the property, as well as the handmade terrazzo tiles, traditional wood craftsmanship or the mouth-blown glass lighting with transparent and amber accents.

FSB products were used in various places in the project as polished, optical accents. Chosen as bronze versions, the door and window fittings of the FSB 1004 product series, with their warm hue and with their lightly patinated, waxed surfaces, fit in ideally with the vibrant, Mexican materials that characterize the project. "The hotel guests can discover and formally feel the extraordinary quality and noble materiality," says the architect, who further describes David Chipperfield's design for the renowned Brakel hardware manufacturer as "timeless and sophisticated." FSB 1004 is based on a clear formal concept that meets all functional requirements and impresses with its logical clarity. With their reduced design and warm-to-the-touch materiality, the built-in hardware completes the overall concept of the Baja Club hotel perfectly down to the last detail.
