Visibility is critical for a bank branch that was to become the new home of two merged
Crelan branches in Roeselare (Belgium). Thanks to Renson's new Fixscreen Minimal CW50 sun blinds, perfectly integrated on the facade, this is emphasized even more.
The building owner wanted a minimalist and functional building, meeting all the needs of a modern banking and insurance office.
Large areas of glass and an open landscape office were therefore an obvious requirement here for the architect, who assumed an elongated beam as the design for this new building.
This became a pilot project for Renson's Fixscreen Minimal CW50 fabric awning. This fabric awning was specially developed for curtain walls like this one. The coupling guides are therefore as wide (50 mm) as the profiles of the curtain wall.
"Thanks to this new type of cloth awning, we were still able to opt for slim curtain wall profiles," explains architect Corneel Schepens (architectural firm Schepens BV). "Moreover, both the side guides and the fabric boxes of the awning are completely concealed in the facade, which ultimately only helps the detailing."
Renson's Fixscreen Minimal CW50 awning was seamlessly integrated into the exterior facade. And so it hardly catches the eye. Even with the screens lowered, everything forms one beautiful whole, while the sun is still blocked where it is most efficient to prevent overheating inside: even before it can reach the glass. Yet it was mainly the negative effect of a low or bright sun (resulting in reflection on screens and on the white desks) that made the client choose fabric sunshades. The fact that they need not detract from the sleek design of this office is, of course, a bonus.
Avoiding overheating - especially with large glass surfaces of curtain walls - was the trigger for Reynaers Aluminium to work with Renson to find the ultimate product combination of curtain walls and fabric awnings.
The two Belgian companies therefore joined forces with the Reynaers Aluminium ConceptWall 50 and the Fixscreen Minimal Curtain Wall 50. The result was a thoroughly tested, aesthetic total solution that relieves all parties in the building process: from architect to installer to builder.
By perfectly matching the profiles of both the façade and the fabric awning in terms of detailing, they fit together seamlessly. The finishing is simply done with the desired cover profile of the Reynaers ConceptWall 50. This joint development also reduces the total number of profiles required to only 3 pieces instead of 5. The cover profile and basic clamping strip from Reynaers Aluminium and the coupling side guide from Renson. This makes this total solution quick and easy to install. Not only is there less screw work, but now that everything is perfectly matched and tested as a combination solution, no one needs to look for a suitable solution themselves.
With its minimalist look, the Fixscreen Minimal Curtain Wall 50 blends seamlessly with the design of curtain walls. This solution takes thermal expansion into account, making it infinitely linkable. The coupling side guide of only 50 mm (as wide as the ConceptWall 50 window profiles) ensures central attachment to the curtain wall and thus preserving the integrity of the curtain wall itself.
Concept Wall 50 is a facade and roof system that guarantees unlimited design freedom and maximum transparency. As an innovative solution, it meets all the technical and design requirements of contemporary architecture where large, heavy and thick glass panels of up to 700 kg are used in combination with parallel opening windows, pop-out sash windows or turn-tilt windows.
