GP Groot and Schipper Kozijnen together complete circle with 100% recycled plastic and wooden window frames

GP Groot and Schipper Kozijnen complete circle together with 100% recycled plastic and wooden window frames

Working together to achieve circular goals. That's the idea behind GP Groot and Schipper Kozijnen joining forces. Together, the companies will develop circular products that will help their customers with sustainability issues. Because using secondary raw materials for new products will stimulate both their own and the national circular economy and save CO2.

Ronald Balvers, director of GP Groot recycling: "GP Groot's ambition is not to simply dispose of residual streams, but instead to apply them in the highest possible quality. Ideally as a raw material for new products. This is circular and prevents the use of new primary raw materials. You can talk about this for years, but it is mainly a matter of doing it."

During renovation and demolition work, too many valuable raw materials still end up in the waste bin. ''Sinful and unnecessary'', thinks Jappe Dekker, Head of Sales for Business Market at Schipper Kozijnen. To prevent this waste, GP Groot and Schipper Kozijnen investigated the possibilities of setting up circular chains with the materials obtained from renovation and demolition. The starting point here is to arrive at raw materials from responsible collection, sorting, processing and treatment that can be used to produce new window frames. "We have come to the conclusion that this is perfectly possible with wooden and plastic window frames and are embarking on this adventure together. We share the same ambitions, speak the same language and are convinced that this process can lead to very nice results," said Dekker and Balvers.

How does it work?

During renovation work by Schipper Kozijnen and during GP Groot's demolition and collection activities, used wooden and plastic window frames are released. These frames are collected separately after which GP Groot, possibly in cooperation with partners, processes them, cleans them and reprocesses them into new raw materials. As part of Corporate Social Responsibility, this is carried out by people distanced from the labor market (social return).

Schipper Kozijnen eventually incorporates the reclaimed materials into newly produced window frames.

Jappe Dekker continues: ''We have a new production process to make new plastic window frames from 100% recycled PVC. From the reclaimed, so-called secondary wood we make new frame frames. The partnership allows GP Groot and Schipper Kozijnen to supply the circular window frames back within the same project from which the material was obtained in circular tenders and renovation works. In short: the customer gets his own waste back in the form of a new product and so we all literally complete the circle."

Blueprint for new initiatives

Although the cooperation agreement between GP Groot and Schipper Kozijnen has only just been signed, the parties are already looking at other streams with which to set up circular projects. ''What we are doing now with circular window frames forms a blueprint for new initiatives. Of course, we also need other chain parties for that. Those who share our circular ambitions are cordially invited to join us,'' Dekker adds.
